OoOoOooo that smell...

...can't you smell that...anyway...

I just got another FC and, after messing around with it for a little while, I noticed something a little odd. The interior smells EXACTLY like my last FC. My last FC smelled just like the one before...and so on. They've all smelled the same.

Anyone else ever notice this phenomenon?

..The Smell that's around you..!!!..Mine always Reeks of Fuel,Exhaust..and Farts!..lol~!

need RX7 06-12-09 09:53 PM

Yep.

RRTEC 06-12-09 09:59 PM

It's the smell of old ass car... That at some point sat for a couple years....lol

Makenzie71 06-12-09 10:03 PM

There's that "old car" smell...that's a given. But it doesn't smell the same as any other old car. I've had a variety of old Supras...some much older than any FC. Old Escorts and Old Monte Carlos and old things of all types. But none smell quite like my FC's, and all my FC's smell alike.

It's crazy.

Grip 06-12-09 10:09 PM

that smell is the 80's..

I think it has something to do with the torn inner shift boots that 99.9% of FCs out there have, and the inherently strong exhaust fumes of a rotary engine. Exhaust fumes are very sneaky, they'll find any way to get in and permeate your interior, clothes, etc.

See now this actually seems like a good explanation.

Slow Rotor 06-12-09 10:33 PM

My car has had the same smell since i got it, i kinda like it.

lonetlan 06-12-09 10:37 PM

That's why chicks don't ride in my car!!

pistones 06-12-09 10:52 PM

that 80's smell is a concoction of jerry curl juice, sweaty members only jackets and burnt rubiks cubes.

daviddeep 06-12-09 11:26 PM

I think even non-broken FCs tend to smell familiar if you've been in them long enough. I think my "new" '88 smells a lot like my "old" '90 did. Both were very low mileage when I got them and neither had any exhaust, fuel, oil, or "old car" smells. It probably has to do with the interior plastics and/or adhesives Mazda used in making the things.

correct.

it all has to do with the interior materials used in the car. Honda's have a "smell" to them too.

my 87TII has 45,500 miles on it to be exact, and it smells like a clean 80's interior...i wonder if that's how they smelled on the showroom floor?

i have armor alled the plastic and vinyl, used air fresheners, and a slight shampoo on the carpet to kill the smell, but it always seems to come back.

its not a bad smell though, so it doesn't bother me at all.

EvilWankel 06-13-09 12:46 AM

I know the smell, they all smell like that. At least the coupes

Black Knight RX7 FC3S 06-13-09 09:56 AM

chicks pass out in my car..............

Hypertek 06-13-09 11:10 AM

i was gonna start a thread about knocking out the fumes.. im sick of commuting in my car with the windows down lol.. cant enjoy the music lol

im thinking i need a new exhaust and or turbo gasket for mine.. i cant determine any leaks in the exhaust system besides those being potential areas...

beefhole 06-13-09 02:16 PM

It's a combo of cheap plastic, oil, gasoline, exhaust and of course.... farts.

Maybe its all of the armorall we are using in hopes that it may magically fix any rips/tears and flaws we have

Mine smells great, love the old car/exhaust fume smell/intoxication. Could be worse...it could smell like gear oil :( I got some of that shit on my shirt from my last transmission oil change and after three washes it still isn't completely out

rotorkid 06-13-09 10:29 PM

yeah mine smelt like that too but one day i decided i didnt need interior anymore and well as you guessed the smell went with it. or is just masked by pre-mix fumes
