New paintjob...reference?
 

Well as u might have seen out from some of the pics i posted of my car there are some cosmetical problems, so im getting it repainted.

Things is im not sure if i should go for the same original color " Brilliant Black" or if i want a darker gunmetal clearcoated with flakes. Ive not really seen a fresh paint of the Brilliant Black but im wondering if it would be a totally different experience with a fresh Brilliant Black paint compared too the almost 20 year old paint wich is on it.

Do anyone have pictures of a totally fresh Brilliant Black paintjob? im curious too see one, and been browsing about any searchengine and only find modern Brilliant Black paintjobs that actually isnt the same colour, its just .....a big ball of boring black :(

I mean...thats clearly 2 completly different colours, whats the deal about this, ISNT my car Brilliant Black ?

it does look like its gray/gunmetal kind of looking....but i like it more than the black, it looks unique!

Your car isn't Brilliant Black, Its (3G) Shadow Silver Metallic.

Its a colour that was only available on European and Japanese models, I've got the same colour. In reality its more of a gunmetal grey.

Thnx guys, i want too do a repaint in the same colour and maybe add a layer of clear lac and some flakes, what do you guys think?

Is there a clear lac that kinda darkens what is under it, almost like the kinda clear lac u find for wood wich also darkens the wood too a moody brown colour, i dont want a brown shade on mine tho, just if there were somekinda lac that would darken the result under it?

Im european, yes, lac...paint...laugh it up

Your cars current color looks awesome. What imperfections are there other than the front lip that looks like it needs to be redone?

I'd paint the car the same color again. If you really want to change the color or add some flakes I suggest looking up some paint codes that you would like to try and have a local body shop spray a few samples for you. Leave the samples on your dash and drive around for a few days with them there and see how they look in different realistic lighting conditions. Never make a judgment call on a paint color under fluorescent lighting.

The "ding" is a corrosion bubble....Does adding flakes make me have too do the engine bay also?

That colour almost looks like the 25G Mazda's been using lately.

Love that colour.....and you only need to paint the engine bay if you want to. You could paint a red car black and leave the engine bay if you felt like it - its your car :)

How about the possibility of just doing the engine bay at a later point in time? doesnt have too be done at the same time right?

i mean i can mask and pick everything that needs picking off and sanding it down and prep it for paint then paint it, and then lets say 2 months later i can cover up anything else and pick the engine out and prep and paint that right?

Uhh... It's obvious your 7 isn't painted "PZ" or Brilliant Black. The "paint book" says it's between 9000 and 9300, which is a generic paint-code system. Either way, PZ is straight BLACK. I just sprayed several parts on my GTUs and the paint matches *pretty* well to my OEM PZ, (to answer your 20 yo question), but it's pretty difficult to notice any difference because in this case, black turns out to look like... Black. ;) The BB or PZ is a pretty basic color/tone.

Get the PPG 9700 black, deltron basecoat. It is a straight black no brown or grey.

Meh, i can live without Black, i was wondering what code mine had, i got that answer, havent seen a Shadow Silver Metallic thread tho , i seen Brilliant black,blue,red etc but no Shadow silver thread, searched abit but didnt find any, has there ever been made a thread as such?

This is a colour id love too have on the car tho, a sorta seagreen too fade black, anyone know what this kinda paint is called? i made it in a 3d studio i have.

I really like the color of your car- it looks great, dont change it.


BUT

black never goes out of style, putting funky flakes in clearcoat will get old and prove tougher to touch up later

nothing compares to a black car, this one has not been waxed in 3 years- but it has been inside most of that time

well mine is gunmetal like that first pic you got there and i get quite a few compliments for it, however my other is black and i get lots of compliments that way too, you cant lose either way its still a 7 and you are still going to get attention
