New Paint in the works!
Well I am starting to strip the paint off my car for new paint!
Also going to paint the body kit on it aswell and paint that bitch aswell. Here are some pics. This is what I am using to removed the paint. You just put this stuff on the the car with a paint brush wait about 10 min or so and scrap it off with paint scraper. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0445.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0439.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0440.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0441.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0442.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0443.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0444.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0446.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0447.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0450.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...2/IMG_0460.jpg |
How is it working for you? I gave up with it because it was too time consuming. I might soda blast mine next

No need to remove the paint completely. More effort+more time. Not only that, you generally just sand down the original paint to no more than the primer for better paint adhesion. You better make sure you get all that paint remover off before painting or sanding or you will work it into the metal and it will turn into fish eyes later.
In my opinion, you should only be stripping, or maybe even sanding to bare metal where you need to fix dents with filler. |

So you get Aircraft Remover when you need to remove paint, what do you buy to get rid of unwanted planes?

Riz. ... too soon??? |
Well i have no choice but to strip to bare metal because the original primer has spider line cracks all over the place.
|
your gonna need to hit the whole body with primer, typically etching primer and then a sealing primer, or a 2k primer. The whole stripping of the paint isnt worth it imo. If your changing color, a sealing primer typically by the same company you use for the color paint will do.
good luck! |
wow you have a lot of sanding to do
in the world of body work THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS..........:dunno::dunno::dunno: |

Depends i stripped my car completely because i found some filler i didnt like. Stripping can be a very good choice because you know your not painting over someone elses crap.

Stipping all the way down can never hurt... as long you use a proper primer. Epoxy primer is the shit IMO.... just blasted a challenger shell and epoxy primed it last week.

Exactly what kind of primer should I use? I have never painted a car befor so any advise and suggestions are welcomed. Thebcar is going to be the same color. I just wAned it to be done right the first time |
PPG has OMNI brand and is an epoxy primer. dont sand it, just lay it down nice and smooth and lay your basecoat on it in less than 72 hours.:icon_tup: for OMNI epoxy primer
|
Yeah I gota start on my vert project. So I'm guessing that aircraft stripper works

Thanks for the tips on Primer. How much does it usually cost? |
shit youre only gonna use a half gallon for the exterior... i think i used a whole gallon for the entire car (engine bay, exterior, interior) and it was less than $100
|
scary looking good luck with that
|
Just sanded my entire body down and started rattle can'ing the front half of the car. Looks legit so far, no pics yet though
|
The car is Bout half done now I got just the fenders left to do than I can sand a little. I am also chaning the boxy kit I am putting on the car to the GP sport kit I like the front and the side skirts bEtter. Anyways I'll let you all know on some updates asap.
