That looks great! The lines of these cars go with red so nice.

Looks fantastic, just needs the front lip painted.

Front lip is carbon fiber, along with the bottom of the side skirts and the rear diffuser, thus it flows fairly well. Its probably the shitty cell phone pictures that make it look unpainted lol.

Looks good, how new is the paint wondering why you claybar it? To cut it a little?

Even new paint is succeptable to contamination. .. generally speaking trash of all sorts ends up standing their ground on your paint finish like blackheads in the pores of your skin.

Lubricating the paint surface , clay is worked in straight lines (like blocking) , and It grabs and traps the trash. You will frequently be kneading the clay as to not redeposit.

This trash left on your finish will cause scratching , holograms , etc as bits abrade during polishing or waxing.

Most people don't believe that claying a new paint finish is necessary before colorsanding and buffing.. idiots.

you talking sanding and polishing a few days after paint or a few weeks/months?

It would depend on the paint system you're using, and anything that would affect the drying time. Even if its only a few days there would be no reason not to clay the paint unless the car were to be sitting in clean conditions.

just the first I have ever heard of someone clay barring fresh paint.
I can see if it was being used a few weeks or months before sanding and polishing, but otherwise I cant see anything ever attaching itself to the paint that a simple wash before sanding wouldnt remove.

Think about it like this.. paints are chemically cured these days, like epoxy. While the paint is 'dry' after about a day, and can/should be knocked down (in most base/clear cases) with sanding, its still considered wet paint for some time. Ergo, its still soft and things can become attached to it. The surface also isn't glass smooth. Couple that with the fact that a lot of people doing their own painting are doing it in what is unlikely to be a pro-grade , extremely clean environment or paint booth. Bits of bug and trash that end up in your final coat can sometimes be gently 'removed' with claying.

Bottom line is if the car is going to leave its cocoon, especially if its single-stage.. you should clay it. Is It absolutely necessary? No, of course not. Different body shops will say many things.

ohhhh so thats gaurds red. That was one of the colors I was looking at, besides that crazy orange/red from the mazda3. (Paint code is somewhere around here.)

In the end if I repaint I've decided to keep with the Blaze Red, only do a dual stage with clear, none of this single stage BS.

No i can tell. That's why I said it needs to be painted. I don't mind the skirts so much, and I'm not the idiot to suggest painting a rear diffuser.

The reason I suggest painting the lip is because bare cf lips make a car look incomplete, IMHO, and in terms of a front lip it doesn't compliment the human eye in terms of making the front bumper look lower/longer kn the front which is what a front lip is used to create.

Looks good don't get me wrong, just not my taste on the naked cf lip.

I want the shineauto FD feed skirts and shineauto rear diffuser in CF, but plan to get fiberglass because it would feel incomplete to me.
Truthfully the way I have always felt, and heard other people express, if your going to put exposed CF on a red car.... you need a WHOOOOOLLLEE lot of CF.

I agree with at least the front lip idea, Im having a hard time appreciating the front of your car like I have with other shineauto front lipped FCs painted.

Everyone makes their car how they please.

i usually like body colored lips on cars but black lips on red cars look really good



acesanugel- I do a shit ton of spraying, sanding and polishing, repairs, etc. Cant say I have ever needed to clay bar before sanding and polishing but Ill do a side by side comparison one day and see for myself.

That is your personal preference, as are many things in the world of paint and body.

Anything that I have said here comes from speaking to guys in very well respected local body shops and reputable web sites, and even a few of the local four million year old guys that do the hot rod show every year.
