My TII Build

Finally get to start my own build thread. When I bought the car it had an oil leak. Thought it was coming from the oil cooler lines. Turns out it was between the rear rotor housing and the rear iron. Had another Turbo II motor so I figured I would put it in. Finally got the car to my dad's garage yesterday. Started getting the harness off and labeling it to get ready to pull it. Here are a few pics from today when I started.

Got the harness off. All that is left to get is the exhaust, transmission, and motor mounts unbolted and it will be ready to come out. Going to work on it some more tomorrow. Should have pics then too.

batmanfc 08-30-09 06:19 PM

Update as of today. I got the old motor out and got the other in but not bolted up. Had some things come up and couldn't finish. Gonna try and get it bolted up and wired up tomorrow.

Sorry about the crappy pic. Took it with my blackberry because I forgot the camera.

blackedoutFC3S 08-30-09 06:31 PM

Nice. What are your plans for the car?

batmanfc 08-30-09 07:21 PM

Right now I'm just putting the other TII motor I had laying around. Just want to get it running so that I can drive it lol.

blackedoutFC3S 08-30-09 07:52 PM

Haha ya I understand man, I've been doing my first rebuild and swap so It's been a little over 9 months trying to get the funds together for the build, It sucks not having my FC.

batmanfc 08-30-09 09:53 PM

Yea thats me. I'm right at a year now and am finally getting it done. It's no fun to look at it and know it doesn't run. It's really depressing actually.

lonetlan 08-31-09 12:09 AM

I wish you the best of luck!

batmanfc 08-31-09 02:51 PM

Thanks man. Going to go try and finish it up today after work. Hope everything goes well.

batmanfc 08-31-09 09:47 PM

Once again another update. Got the motor in the car, bolted to the transmission and motor mounts. Gotta finish connecteing the wiring harness tomorrow and changing injectors over. Sorry about the crapp pic from the blackberry again. Keep getting in a hurry and forgetting the camera at home. More to come tomorrow.

Finally got it all in and finished today minus a few little things. Got all the fluids and everything in it today and started to crank it but it wouldn't do anything but hit a little. Started to get worried thinking firing might be off. Changed the plug wires around but just made things worse. Was smoking pretty bad out of the exhaust at one point but we kept trying. Motor hadn't been cranked in at least 2 years that I know of. Then finally it cranked but died. Did it 2 more times. Third times a charm they say. It cranked and ran. Timing was a little off. Set the timing and it idles on its own but high. Gotta check for vac leaks tomorrow it idles at about 3k rpms. Finally got it running though. Now for the pics.

Almost everything together.

Smoke I was talking about. Would do it everytime it fired til it finally cranked.

Well it has been a pretty long time since I have posted anything about the car. I figured I would update some. Nothing major has changed. The car needs a clutch as of right now and it will basically be ready to drive. I finally finished sanding and painting it. It looks like a completely different car.
Pics:
During the sanding I found a pink star on each door under the camo. Pic of passenger side.

Pic of drivers side with windows taped and ready for paint.

Finished product just need to pull the tape and paper off.

Not to bad I don't think considering I had never painted before and the paint was just some thinned down paint from lowes. I thought I had pics of it with the paper and tape off. I also stripped the white/pink spray paint off of the wheels back to the original aluminum which helped the look of the car too. I'll try to get some in the next few days.

Here is a before/after shot:

good job on the paint!

batmanfc 10-18-10 09:03 PM

Thanks. I was really surprised that I did that well considering I had never tried to paint a car before. I am proud of it for sure.

MadScience_7 10-18-10 09:21 PM

Did you paint it right there outside? I'm surprised it doesn't have bugs stuck all over it.

Yea haha. That is the only place I had available to do it. I figured it would have bugs all over it too but I didn't mind if it did or not because anything would look better than the pink stars and camo. Turned out a lot better than I expected.

Now all I need to do is sand and buff it to get a little better shine. Other than that the paint is finished for qutie a while.

DC 91 fc3s 10-19-10 04:51 AM

looks dope man good job

batmanfc 10-19-10 12:14 PM

Thanks. I just need to get a clutch in it and fix a few minor problems and I'll finally be able to drive it full time.

GordiniRX7 10-19-10 12:23 PM

Did you spray a clear coat or is that just a single stage? What kind of paint did you use?

batmanfc 10-19-10 02:31 PM

Its just single stage. It was a 1 gallon can of gloss black indoor/outdoor oil based Rustoleum I bought from lowes for $26 and then I used about a pint and a half of acetone to thin the gallon and then just sprayed it on. I've still not finished yet. I'm going to sand it with a really fine grit sand paper and then buff it and that should bring more shine out of it.

GordiniRX7 10-19-10 03:07 PM

How many coats did you put on?
Id say do like a 2-part wet sand, first with 1500, then with 2000. Then use Mcguire's new 105 and 205. that should look pretty decent.

batmanfc 10-19-10 03:41 PM

I put 3 coats on just for good meaure.
That's kind of what I figured I would do. I'm not in a huge hurry for it right now though haha. My main concern is getting a clutch for it and getting the small problems fixed so I can finally start driving it.

R.O.D 10-19-10 09:07 PM

A+ bro, way to bring her back to life!!!

batmanfc 10-19-10 09:46 PM

Thanks. It's still a work in progress but I am getting there. I've noticed I stay a lot more motivated when I accomplish something even if its small like an oil change. It just feels good that some of the things I am doing to the car aren't just repairs to keep it running constantly.

TheAbsence 10-20-10 12:23 AM

Great job and thank goodness you painted it!

Tyler [S5 FC] 10-20-10 02:12 PM

^^^ Just about to reply with the same response lol
