So today i tacked in the fd cross member and put the motor in to see how it would fit and its way better then the crappy thing i made. I would show you guys the member right now but its not done lol and i don't want any bashing. I made sure to see if the hood would fit and it does nicely. I know i'm probably not going to make my dead line but i definitely will have it done next month. I'm not rushing anything i want it to be nice and not break. I cant wait to have this beast done so i can start going to events. As far as my arm its doing fine just can't angle my hand up or it hurts like a bitch lol. Oh yeah i got my gauges and fuel pump a couple days ago and will be wiring that stuff up along with the harness this coming up weekend. Also on the to do list is finish welding in the cross member. Oh boy i'm going to have fun :p lol

TrboSpdAnt 03-13-11 05:24 PM

Sickness, man! I'm glad everything's coming together, for you!

That's a nasty-looking gash! Just make sure you follow the Doc's orders when it comes to daily stress on those sutures!

Can't wait to see this come together!

Thanks for the support trbospdant and i thought i would update since it has been a while, dont want you guys thinking im one of those "REW" threads lol. First i would like to say that my friend with the ss finished rebuilding his motor a couple days ago and put it in and is driving it. Come to find out the 350 he has in it had .20 pistons and pretty much performance everything on the inside. So for everyone that said that wouldnt get done ha! :) he is waiting to get past the break in period so that he can get on it to see what it really has. Second my friend with the m3 just finished rebuilding his motor today and he put forged pistons in it. He will be putting it in his car next week, so again for everyone that said it wouldnt get done ha! :). Now for my car i have been slacking on the progress but i am stopping that. I didnt like where the cross member was sitting so i moved it back an inch and dropped the motor in and it sits in there very nice, hood closes and sits flush no problem :). Also i made a bracket to put the fd radiator in my fc and made the stock intercooler a front mount one for now until i get money for an actual one. I also made bracket to fit fd seats in there and for everyone that says they dont feel right, your WRONG lol :) they feel better then stock, i love them . As far as my wire harness I have the abs wires out and next week i am finishing it up and taking out the emissions, a/c, a/p, air bags, stereo, etc etc everything i dont need. Hopefully by next weekend i can try to start it if not then, then the week after for sure. I am still waiting on the drive shaft to finish the drive shaft, so hopefully they finish soon so i can put that on. I dont know why everyone says this swap takes forever i am going to have it done in a few months and ive been slacking lol. Oh yeah i forgot one more ha! this one is for everyone that said i wouldnt get done or would take forever HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! :) lol and ill keep you updated trbospdant and the rest of you guys lol j/p and when all 3 of our cars are up and running i will post a video just to give all the haters the doo doo face lmao

oh yeah i also tapped the thermostat housing for the water temp sensor and put the fc top on

Don't gloat yet, the hardest part will be getting it running on the garbage FD ecu.

Advice: you've put this much time into it, don't blow it all off by not going stand alone.......

alien drifter 04-09-11 09:43 AM

thanks for the tip nate and im just messing with you guys, if all else fails yeah ill go stand alone just dont have the money right now. I still want to go stand alone when i get the money so i can actually tune it.

Vdub2002 04-09-11 11:19 AM

he sounds like hes 16, im just curious if the fd block he got even has compression. nobody thought about that.

his attitude really needs adjustment imo, the forums here arent run by the drift generation.

also, the guys here are awsome to get help from... i know ill prolly be here begging for help when i change the crappy efan the previous owner did.... trying to get the motivation to go to the junk yard for the villager fan...

jaggermouth 04-09-11 11:24 PM

He thinks he's almost done because he has the engine in...aw, too cute. FYI I had my engine out, bay cleaned and painted and the REW w/trans in within a week. I had it running within a few months. After many other issues such as my Vmount, haltech wiring, Racepack dash, efan to haltech wiring, water pump failing, oil cooler lines failing, S5 ball joints failing, etc, I was driving it daily in a year and a half total work. I was also in welding class full time and working 32 hours a week.
So, maybe one day you'll join the few who have a daily driving REW FC :) I wish you luck with everything and hope many problems don't come up.

Have you done any research on what coolant hoses you're going to need? How about oil cooler fittings? Did you remember to take your oil pan off, re seal it, and put a brace on? How about gauges, speedo, etc. How about getting your FD harness to fire your FC coils?

PS, all that work and you didn't even degrease the engine?! looks like a rusty, oxidized piece of scrap lol

RotaryEvolution 04-09-11 11:37 PM

why are you going with the FD radiator? that's more work than it's worth.

K-Tune 04-09-11 11:54 PM

...how do you remove the radiator now?

jaggermouth 04-10-11 01:17 AM

I also like the stock FD IC.

g14novak 04-10-11 05:49 AM

The first FC with a REW swap using all FD parts. No aftermarket.

I can honestly tell you your not prepared for what this swap requires.

That's so it matches the rest of the car.

alien drifter 04-10-11 01:19 PM

ok first off i do not have an attitude if you did not see that i said i was just playing and thanked nate for his tip, it was actually a helpful tip and was just warning me, he didnt just go off and start bashing. im sorry if you some of guys like to have tampons stuck up your ass, i like to joke so what doesnt mean im 16. ok now let me reply to each one of you individually so i can make you feel special.

ok vdub no i am not 16 and yeah it has compression, i actually seen the engine run. Im not just putting some random engine in my car i do have some common sense. Also YES!!! i know this site is good for info i use the search forum all the time, that is how i made it this far by searching for info.

Now for jaggermouth yes i have done research on what coolant hoses im going to need and about oil cooler fittings. I havent got to the point yet to take my oil pan off, re seal it, and put a brace on yet but i am going to guarantee it. Yes i have the gauges, speedo, etc. situation covered, i have already got that planned. As far as getting the fd harness to fire the fc coils, im not using the leading fc coils yet im just going to stick with stock everything for now and get it running first before i go and get aftermarket parts, Why would i spend a couple hundred dollars on a ignition system before i have it running? just my thought process and i havent degreased the engine yet because i am not done, that is final stuff, thats like saying im going to paint and clear coat this car then primer it. Also thanks for the wishing me luck lol i need it and yes ill join you daily driven rews soon enough.

Karack i am going with it because the fc radiator supports that were there were shit from the previous owner. It was bent and some spots cut and i had an fd radiator so i said why not and its not more work cuz its done.

K-tune i remove the radiator by removing the 10mm bolts holding it in place its not like i welded the radiator in.

g14 i am not using any aftermarket parts right now cuz i want to get it running first.

K-tune no its not so it matches the rest of the car, its because i am not going to do the prettying up until i have it good and running. You guys are worried about looks??? I could give a fuck less about looks as long as it runs like its suppose to.

as long as i am happy with it is all that matters. i will be back when its done and no its not going to be a year, peace.

Hypertek 04-10-11 01:54 PM

why not use all FD parts? If he is in Cali, he could get this thing Carb legalized and be full 100% street legal and not worry about cops etc

g14novak 04-10-11 01:56 PM

Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that your doing a REW swap. Your just going about doing it the wrong way.

1. I don't see the reason for installing the stock harness and ecu if you plan on removing it later (you said your aiming for 350-400whp, your not going to make that on stock ecu)

2. Putting in the FD radiator is a waste also because your going to have to change that out as well when you start making more power.

3. Do you find enjoyment in pulling and reinstalling the engine? You should have to create the mounts for it *ONCE* and then clean it *ONCE* so that you only have to install it *ONCE*. Not pull it out every time you have to change something. Your just wasting time that you could be using on something useful. Like cleaning that interior that looks like it got hit by a dust bomb.

4. Are you still using the FD tranny? Unless you get it rebuilt with stronger parts, it's not going to hold up at those power levels. It'll be fine for stock, but as soon as you cross over 300, they start getting iffy. Over 350, their ticking time bombs.

not really, they can handle much more than that unless he is recklessly launching the car at high RPMs and then both the TII diff(if he's using one) and the transmission are equally fragile.

the biggest issue with using an FD tranny is the mounting, which can be fabricated but everything sits slightly differently in the FDs so the shifter hole may need to be cut up, chassis welded on or some cheesey bracket made up to fit the transmission onto. the FC TII transmission will fit the way it's supposed to if he gets the engine mounts in the correct spot, which they should be anyways otherwise the driveshaft may have issues.

but if he has all the FD parts i guess why not use them, but it will be more work in the end. much more than i think he originally realized because he still isn't anywhere close to being finished yet.

i won't give him anymore crap nor do i think anyone else should. encouragement is something we should be giving instead of constantly degrading people for getting in over their heads. i just want to let him know that it will be more work than he thinks. take your estimate time of hours to complete now and total cost and triple those figures and you will be pretty close to what it will take to get it rolling.

magus2222 04-10-11 02:28 PM

lol. peoples degrading comments and constant criticism makes these threads all the better!
no but really, youre FAR from done, but keep it up.
i know ill be doing an REW swap in my vert soon enough, complete with vmic, gt35rBB, haltech, AI, the works. people are always going to say "you cant do it, it cant be done, you are in over your head" blah blah blah
most of those people have never tried it either lol

Lloyd

alien drifter 04-10-11 03:28 PM

i like those last few comments way better lol and g14 i want to reach those power levels one day but not my goal right now. I am going to drive it stock for a while, then when i want to up the power i will upgrade everything and i got what your saying about pulling it and putting it back in but that doesnt bother me at all and yes it does look like it did get hit with a dust bomb lol. karack where i have the engine and tranny sitting i dont have to cut the shifter hole, its right where it needs to be. I didnt want to have to cut it lol

jaggermouth 04-10-11 06:57 PM

I have tried it and have it driving daily...I dont think anyone is commenting on the REW swap, just how he's going about it. I think the saying "Do it once, do it right" applies here. I'm not saying my swap was mint, or perfect by any means, but I've only had to put the engine in once, wiring in once, radiator in once, etc.
I just couldn't imagine putting 20 year old wiring into a car and being happy with it. Or putting in a stock SMIC.

I want to see this thing run and drive so that's why I've been offering advice. I had no help so I thought I could offer some "assistance"

Yeah im sure it will be totally pro in your back yard. Are you even rebuilding the REW before you drop it in? I highly doubt thats a part of your "plan".

I stopped skimming through this shit fest at page three and jumped to the bashing because your plain ignorance pisses me off. And why in the fuck do you keep addressing every post to rrtec?

Go home little boy

OustedFairlady 04-11-11 01:06 AM

Er..just noticed. Page 7. /foot in mouth.

g14novak 04-11-11 01:31 AM

I saw it earlier in the thread but no response. Did you check the compression on the motor before you put it in?

alien drifter 06-01-11 01:30 PM

so after taking care of some stuff and getting things back in order for me to work on the fc, i worked on it today for the first time in a while (like a month and a half) and i got it started. It sounds real good and drives nice, started on the first try after i let the fuel prime. I had to stop messing with it today cuz i have to get ready for work but definitely will be working on it this weekend. Ill post some vids when i get a camera.
