fcforlife 10-29-08 12:09 AM

i am starting out with a good s4 na block. i am going to be build a high compression turbo engine tuned with a haltech e11. 720 primaries with 1600 secondaries. and finally a t60-1 turbo with a 1.00 hot side. i am currently working on porting on the manifolds and throttle body.

some tb port and polishing (not finished completely yet)
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/SL380516.jpg
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/SL380520.jpg
on this last picture on the left side pretty much straight down there was a bump out from casting. it is about a 1/4 inch out. looks like a coolant passage well i got courageous and wanted to see if i could grind it all the way down. well i was able to grind it all way down without puncturing through the passage. now lets just hope it holds up to the system pressure. i think it is just for the accelerated warm up which is deleted so i may just be able to block it off.

i will post more pics as they come

Alex Rodriguez 10-29-08 09:02 AM

nice

you have a true beater ...cant wait to see what it looks like when u paint it back up

keep the pics coming so your thread doesnt die out in a day

dkwasherexd 10-29-08 11:06 AM

haha motor work first then body and paint!!! Damn is it me or is that lower intake manifold ported out??? Looks huge. the TB is hellaa nice work too!!! Cant wait to see how everything comes together

fcforlife 10-29-08 11:19 AM

nah the lower intake mani hasn't been worked on yet. but it willl have a nice port and polish throughout the whole length of the runners. just hope it turns out the way i want and i don't have to buy new ones.

fcforlife 10-29-08 11:21 AM

got bored and took the manifolds to my school and medi blasted them
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/SL380525.jpg
started working on porting to the upper intake manifold
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/SL380527.jpg

fcforlife 10-29-08 06:37 PM

so i did a little more work on the upper mani today but realized that it is going to take a lot of time energy and effort to get that plenum polished and all the runners nice and polished. wondering if anyone here knows a good place to get the manifolds port and polished to save me some work. i found a couple places on line but i don't think they have ever messed with rotary engine stuff.

need RX7 10-29-08 07:25 PM

Looks like it needs some TLC, but I like your engine plans and what you have done so far. :icon_tup: Good luck.

fcforlife 10-30-08 12:43 AM

just to end confusion that chassis that is in the pics is the old one that i have recently gotten rid of. i was focusing everywhere with that chassis. so i got rid of it and am focusing on the engine. once the engine is done then i am going to buy a chassis and do the body work/suspension work. i have a friend that is gonna do my body work.

im in the process of getting a job so everything im a doing right now is when i can come across a great deal or sell some parts. hence the reason this is going to take me a long time and i wanted to get rid of the chassis. well i found a place that will port and polish the manifolds for me for a couple hundred so i think imma go that route. or i may at some point make my own intake manifolds.

oh i am also going to run fd dual oil coolers due to the fmic. figured i would move the oil cooler to the sides so i don't restrict that much airflow.

fcforlife 10-30-08 12:24 PM

just got off the phone with Extrude Hone to polish my intake manifolds. its a lot of money but well worth it in the end. its gonna cost about 600 to do both manifolds.

http://www.extrudehone.com/ pretty cool process i think that will be a final step for me but i will be getting it done. can't have any short cuts on this build at all.

funny conversation i asked how much it cost and the lady on the phone in return said"okay how many cylinders do you have" my response"ummmm well none its a rotary" luckily they knew about them because the 600 includes both uim and lim.

jcfrx7 10-31-08 10:08 AM

If you dont mind me asking... what hight compression rotor you are going to use?

InsomniacFC 10-31-08 10:30 AM

Hey, when you're done come do mine.

for now i am use s4 na rotors(i know i know) but hell the short block is in great condition. i had it sitting there and thought ahh what the hell. when it goes out i will rebuild it and use s5 t2 rotors.

are you talking about the throttle body?

jmkogut 10-31-08 05:46 PM

Good progress man! I like seeing what you have done on that TB, I've gotta try that out sometime.

fcforlife 10-31-08 06:59 PM

just buy an assortment of dremel bits. they have these buffer wheels too the highest grit i saw was 320 which is what i used before polishing. it basically has a mirror finish before polishing. but you gotta buy a lot of those buffing wheels they wear out pretty fast.

kinda figured out a way of not really porting the runners of the intake but more so smoothing it out. i found a bottle hone that is meant for brake cylinders nice length should work. oh well i will find out.

younG_Gunner 11-01-08 01:17 PM

is this car in Stockton or Tracy? Never seen this car around!

fcforlife 11-03-08 09:16 AM

it was in hiding for a long time. was in storage in patterson for about four months. and before that i drove up to idaho. so it was only in tracy for a brief period and i wasn't driven much then either.

blackedoutFC3S 11-03-08 05:00 PM

Hey man looks like it's gonna be a crazy project, sure hope it goes good for you! Definitely keep us updated on how the turbo motor comes along.

fcforlife 11-03-08 05:19 PM

im hoping it goes good to i have 1600cc injectors on the way now:bigthumb: just need to find some 720cc for my primaries i will definitely have enough fuel on this project.

well i painted my intake manifolds this weekend just black i was going to polish them but just decided i would do that on another set of intakes. that are also going to be extrude honed. will put up some pics of the manifolds tonight.

gotta get my parts washer from my brother to clean up my throttle body make it look pretty figure imma take my time on this build and just do everything i wanna do on it.

anybody have turbo parts pm let me know what you got and how much.

fcforlife 11-07-08 03:18 AM

damn photo bucket is down and i can't upload any photos:wallbash:

well i got some fuel rails in today a long with some 1600cc injectors.:icon_tup:
they are stock fuel rails thanks to japan2la so i am going to be modifing them to accept the 1600cc injectors on the secondary rail.

tried to paint my fuel rails with that metalcast anodized look paint but it was too cold out so it didn't take:wallbash: . so i have to re sand blast them and try again:lol: or maybe i will just anodize them myself. anybody know what an fittings i need to attach to the fuel rails?

i also got bored and painted my intake manifolds with engine paint. just black kinda matches my engine. and kinda looks cool with the BOP not painted. with this car i am planing on having a few engines built and ready to go so when one blows it out and in. but thats not for a while. i would rather get one dialed in first.

anybody wanna donate parts to the build feel free:lol:   i will pay shipping or pick up if your close

my teacher at delta college said he may have to start charging me to use the blaster haha im there like everyday.

Turbo II Rotor 11-09-08 10:50 PM

Harbor freight sells them for like $100 if you have the room for one. I love mine.

I just hope he flushes out his fuel rail in case he got any media in it.

ecko 11-09-08 11:18 PM

nice work.

no i wasn't planning on flushing it out.....should i

don't worry it has been flushed out and the regulator is going to be replaced as well as the pulsation damper. i was also wondering if the stock fpr would be sufficient for my build or if i should just get an aftermarket one.

fcforlife 11-22-08 01:01 AM

update time

so i have been doing mock ups to make sure everything fits as it should. i think i have removed and replaced the intake manis about 30 times already haha.

now for the pictures
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380637.jpg
rb aluminum flywheel to come soon for here:)
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380633.jpg
banzai racing omp block off kit. after installing the plate i realized i have to use an s4 t2 front cover:wallbash: not a big deal just wasted time
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380635.jpg
my homemade egr block off plate. haha. fits perfect i used the gasket as a template it is maybe a 16th bigger all the way around then the gasket.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380636.jpg
that little bit of rust looking fluid is actually atf that i have been periodically been spraying in and turning over the engine.

fcforlife 11-22-08 01:08 AM

lim installed with fuel rails no injectors in them yet. those are my 460cc for mock up. i have 1680cc for the secondaries but i need to modify the fuel rail to fit them.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380634.jpg
uim and tb on with the rb dual alt pully
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...9/SL380631.jpg

sorry for the delay been doing some work for a few people so have been busy plus school takes a lot of time. working on my fuel system right now getting all the fittings and lines for it. i am thinking of running -8 line. but would like some opinions on this whether you think -6 or -8 is a better choice for it. and i know the rails look like crap in the pics but since then i have re sand blasted them and then repainted them the look much better.never try to paint when its too cold:icon_no2: . and its not much but a little flash is nice:lol: i am also confused on how the braided line actually connects to the fittings  anyone chime in on this please. im sure its simple just haven't messed with the lines in person. im sure i would figure it out in about 30 seconds if it was in front of me.

fcforlife 11-23-08 11:51 AM

well im low on funds just bought another vehicle. a 89 nissan d21 5 speed. its nice gets me around. so i am trying to sell my other dd the 90 accord. if that goes through i wil have some money for this.

blackedoutFC3S 11-23-08 12:04 PM

Dude your so close though man! Definitely cant wait to see this as a finished product.

Alldaybored 11-23-08 02:29 PM

its almost their man I wanna see this beast together.

fcforlife 11-23-08 11:11 PM

thanks guys.

fcforlife 12-09-08 10:08 PM

so for an update i recently got an sr motorsports aluminum flywheel currently waiting on my s4 rear counterweight to get here. was going to get an s4 front cover but the guiy wasn't able to get that front bolt off. so i think imma take the route of welding on a bung to my oil pan for a return line. and im going to use the racing beat oil filter pedestal for my oil feed line. and i recently lost my job and am searching for one now so i can really spend any money.(even though i bought a set of mint s5 tails at pick and pull this weekend for 60 bucks)

will post some picks tomorrow morning. even though its all going to be just parts.

dkwasherexd 12-10-08 02:06 AM

i dont get it, isnt a NA motor 6 port?Does the LIM match up to the intake ports? [LIM is 4port,s4 na block 6 port] Are you going to port match it? What about the oil lines? The turbo motors have different front covers and front iron so oil can flow in and return. The turbo water pumps also have a extra water line for the turbo, and it returns to the LIM, which goes into the housing[rear I think]. I think the NA motor has blocked off coolant ports on the housing above the exhaust ports?

I think its easier to work with a turbo shortblock.. Turbo a NA, you will need to figure out where to tap into for oil and coolant

well if you read my last post the oil feed and return has been figured out. im useing the rb oil filter pedistal for the feed line and i am welding on a bung for to the oil pan for the return line.

im going to be running a turbo water pump for the water cooling. and im going to make my own return not through the intake.

and im not going to be running a stock turbo anyways.

the bolt holes line up for the lim just fine as you can see from the pics. i will have to drill and tap for one bolt though.

dkwasherexd 12-10-08 12:18 PM

o sick cool. What about the 5/6th ports and the lower intake ports , do they match the LIM's ports?

revox7 12-10-08 02:30 PM

dude my first fc looked like that when i got through with it.. it was my old drift car

fcforlife 12-10-08 10:19 PM

well the 5th and 6th ports will be blocked off unless i open the port up on the lim to direct air into it. but other wise just the lower ports line up.

rxSIETE 12-12-08 10:10 PM

Awesome...this is what i will be doing in a couple months and cant wait, i have been doin nothing but reading and im tired of reading, and ready to just do it! Looks great so far and cant wait to see future updates, was also curious to what turbo manifold you were using??

fcforlife 12-18-08 02:55 PM

cheapy ebay mani but hey i got it for free who can complain with that haha

update: well finances are still doown so not much has been going on. finally got my counterweight and have since bolted on my srmotorsports flywheel. still need a new friction surface for it. and a clutch. anyone have any good suggestions on clutches?

fcforlife 01-03-09 12:57 AM

so to update my friend who lives in corona brought up my t2 trans that needs a rebuild. and boy does it. took off the pan and there was some rust. but its okay. i will pull it apart and hot tank the parts i can and put the aluminum parts in a parts washer. just another project that i am taking on. i didn't wanna buy a tranny that someone said worked fine for 200 and then it goes out and i have to rebuild it. rather spend 50 like i did and just rebuild it. i haven't been home for a while but i will update again with pictures when i can. so far no current progress on the engine.

buy my parts so i can finish this thing man.
