My 4th FC (S5 Vert)

Welll, maybe the fourth times the charm... picked up an S5 vert on Saturday, just drove it home to Houston today. Bought the car in PoCo and picked up the Volk's in Langley about 45 minutes later. It's an auto, so plan is to put a new top on it and drive it like it is for this summer, and change up the powerplant/swap it to manual over the winter, and do some bodywork and interior work. Coilovers are already on the way for it.

Some of you might remember my old FC's:

A bit odd... S5 with S4 tails. A good start nonetheless.

Of course put a manual in it. :)

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'd love a stock driving FC. No more engine swaps... and work.. and more work... and then some more...

chwkrx7 05-22-12 09:16 PM

Haha as soon as I uploaded that, my first thought was "someone's gonna say something about the s4 tails"

GuiltySoul 05-22-12 10:34 PM

What color r u gonna paint this vert? Your colors have been great on fcs.

HOZZMANRX7 05-23-12 12:32 AM

If you color key's the tails akin to a 10AE, I'd call the S4 tails an upgrade. :)

chwkrx7 05-23-12 01:42 PM

Haha, well as you can see from the other pictures, i've always been a fan of s4 tails anyways... the round lights look cool, but I just don't think they flow with the bodylines of the FC well

I've always thought the S5 tails remind me too much of the old Ford Thunderbird tails.

To be fair I'm running S5's, but only because I wanted to smoke my tails and S5's are the only one's you can smoke legally in the Peoples Republic of California. Otherwise, I'd still be running S4's on my S4.

I just bought a black 90 vert ....fenders have ouchies and a few dings on the trunk and all I can think is carbon fiber and happiness. changing the rear calipers to take turbo 2 rotors which I have. This is my first rotory that I've worked on that was actually my own...i.e. I care but I got a few things to fix and I hope you have knowledge to impart. also friggin sweet in white and have you found a top cheaper than 2 grand?

Yeah, tops can be had for around 500 bucks. Check out convertibletopguys, kwiktops, and 1aauto

So my coiilovers showed up. My left rear tire rubbed like a biatch though, and in the process of rolling it, the fender was cracking. Apparantely it's been fixed before in that area and whoever fixed it didn't make it flare out as much as oem- I still had tons of room on the passenger side. So I decided to dive into it and see what I'd find. Friday night I took the grinder out, took out the inside layer of metal from the lip to about 3 inches up, and then started on the outside. Discovered that the bondo is actually pretty thick:

At that point, I just decided to pull the fender out and re-bondo it for now, because I'm planning on painting the car next winter, I'll weld a new quarter in then. Didn't worry too much about the quality, it's just gotta work for the next few months. I pulled it with a bar, got it fairly straight, primered and painted with gloss white rattle can:

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...44016852_n.jpg

So it's not perfect but it will do for now. Here's how the car sits. I just rolled the fronts, no pull needed, and rolled the right rear

So, fixed my rubbing issues in the rear by going to a 215/40. Had the day off work, but went to the shop anyways, swapped tires, got my dome light working (bad solder joints), got my ashtray fixed (broken latch), and did an alignment. Fairly productive for waking up at 12 and quitting at 4 lol...

Specs... Was too lazy to adjust the rear toe, left it as is. Total toe is pretty decent anyways.

Looking great already!

rx7inLt 06-25-12 05:09 AM

What are the specs on the wheels?

NealP 06-25-12 09:50 PM

VS-MX's? Too cool :)

7speed 06-25-12 10:02 PM

It's a real pity about the blue one. I saw that on the local site. You must've got a pretty decent payout from ICBC though

sho amo 06-26-12 06:16 PM

Damn that looks really good.

I have a blue S4 vert with S5 tails. The white looks hella fresh though.

Saw your ad up on craigslist. Any particular reason for selling?

Well, here we go. Finally getting a chance to work on this thing almost a year after I found out the engine blew on it.

Long story short, divorce is more or less over and dealt with now, and I moved back from Houston to Chilliwack. Brought the car down in December when I visited for Christmas, and came down myself a couple of weeks ago. I don't start work until the 7th, so decided to take advantage of the few weeks off, and get the FC build started.

Got the car up on stands, I had already pulled the engine back in Houston when I learned it was toast

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...69710777_n.jpg

Pulled the dash...

Then the rear subframe to clean it up/swap to T2 rear end...

https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/...58562154_n.jpg

Gutted the interior so I can clean the carpets

And got the top off, it really needs to be replaced

https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/...46650485_n.jpg

Also removed engine harness and whatever body harnesses inside the car that I won't be needing (PSCM, wiring for headrest speakers, etc...)

Before I even begin this post, yes it's a V8. No, I don't give a shit that you think i'm disgracing the car and the rotary heritage, so take your negativity elsewhere!

Engine showed up today! It's an 04 LQ9 with 120xxx kms on it. Just need to find F-body intake, pan, and front components now. Oh, and a transmission lol

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...24978879_n.jpg

Also pulled out everything bolted to the firewall for better access to the main body harness, pulled all the wiring out from the cruise control, p/s computer, gauges I won't be needing, the old automatic trans harness, blah blah blah very boring stuff. And pulled the auto pedal setup so I can put the manual pedals in

Picked up a 2004 LQ9 from a 2004 Escalade. Stripped it down and completely resealed it, swapped on a corvette intake, camaro pan, and camaro front drive components. Also after much searching found a T56 in Oklahoma that was in good condition.

About a month ago I made the decision to move BACK to Houston, and so it was time to get the car ready to go back on a trailer. Got the motor and trans mounted in the car for now. Had to put the old top back on, but got most of the interior back together. I was given the opportunity to trade my Volk's for one of my favorite wheels, Riverside AME's. They need a lot of love, but bolted them up for now. Got the car on the trailer.

The car is back in Houston right now, and I'll be moving in 2 1/2 weeks. It'll likely sit all winter but I hope to continue the build in the spring once the snow melts!
