Looking at an S4 Convertible

Hey guys, looking at getting into my first RX7 with a 1988 FC3C that is allegedly mechanically totally sound and needs only a few things cosmetically which he has from a parts car. A couple questions, as I haven't found too much info about the convertibles specifically.

1. Is the convertible transmission different than the coupe non-turbo? It has different ratios so I wasn't sure

2. These are 5 lug, but came with an open differential. What differential units can I use for an LSD? I read that you can use a GXL differential but since things are slightly different than in the coupe, I just wanted some clarity as to whether or not that will fit.

3. Can the 94+ Miata Torsen carrier fit in the diff housing? Again, I found some information on this, but nothing concrete to make me confident with the convertible, as things seemed to be slightly different, unless I'm just reading things wrong.

4. Is there anything in particular I should try to grab from this guy's parts car that I would find difficult to find in the future? He already sold the whole driveline and coilovers that were on it, but he has all of the body. I'm already grabbing bumpers and a mirror and tail light to fix what's currently cracked on the main car, but coming from the world of my 74 Hilux, where parts are nigh on impossible to find, I'm paranoid about how difficult finding things will be.

I also meant to ask if there is anywhere online that has deeper technical information on specifically the convertibles.

The information is out there you just have to find it. FSM helps alot.

I will chime in on a few points since they are quite simple. You can mate up any RX7 Trans to your vert. So long as you keep you mounts and transfer them over. I am using a JDM S5 Turbo Trans on my 88.

As for LSD I grabbed a 86 GXL lsd (Clutch Type) with axles. no issues with fit.
Hope this helps a bit. I love my vert, swapped it over to a turbo 2 and made some suspension/bushing upgrades and its hard to beat for enjoyment.

trans is same on N/A vert or non-vert

Just grab the whole LSD pumpkin and axles out of whatever model you want and slide it in your vert

there are no impossible parts unless he has a full black interior with no cracks and all tabs
