Lightweight Wheel Advice S4 NA base

Hello everyone! I cruised through the forums and could not find what I was looking for so i figured i would ask. I am doing a complete rebuild of an 87 base model rx7 and am wanting to downsize from the 17in wheels it currently has right now for something lighterweight and preferably smaller. I was looking at some 15in silver enkei92s to go for a more classic look, but was curious if anyone has an idea if the 16x7 enkei rpf1 with a +43mm offset would work? Does anyone have any thoughts on what other lightweight wheels would work for the 4 lug, or does anyone want to share what wheels they are currently using? Thank you guys so much, any advice is appreciated!

Love the enkei 92's. As you have probably noticed, 15 and even 16 inch wheels are getting hard to find--especially in 4 bolt patterns with RX7 friendly offsets. The 92's are available in 7 and 8 inch wide and I think either will fit depending on tire size and how low the car is. I don't think I would want the 43mm offset RPF1's. I like the RPF1s and have owned 2 sets, but with a high offset such as the 43, the spoke curve back and look more like a Front wheel drive type wheel. Just my preference though, no judgement.

Contact Rishie at AutoRnD. AutoRnD@gmail.com He knows these cars very well and knows what fits and what doesn't. His fitment advice is always spot on and he gets good deals on wheels and tires also. even with his shipping.

good resources here too......

Thank you so much! That was my concern with the rpf1s too, i am pretty sure they would fit, just not sure how well, or nice they would look.

Yeah Definitely! as a preface I bought the car two years ago for $700 with everything and intact, it just needed a lot of work. So Ive been doing a full rebuild eversince, the wheels are 17in and about 20lbs, Im not sure what brand they are though, they're not bad looking, I just want something lighter and smaller

^If anyone happens to know what wheels these are let me know! I've been curious!

what size tires are on that thing they look massive, also here is a pic of mine with einky rs6 painted super lightweight not sure exactly on the number but mine are 16. I've actually been entertaining going to a 17 but I would like to do like a BBS style wheel.

Ha they were, those were what the car came with when i brought it home, unfortunately i don't remember how big they were.
I like your rs6s, they look nice! Any other base model people want to share what they have or would recommend?

With your car, I would go with a set of BBS wheels off of a convertible. Super light and great looking.

KoriFay 03-05-18 04:39 PM

I really love the convertible wheels, my only problem is the convertibles are 5 lug, and mines a 4 :/
That's why ive been leaning towards the enkei92s, they are the closest I could find that look like the convertible wheels, with out going into the 17+ inch range.

BenRX 03-05-18 07:06 PM

You could also do a 5 lug conversion and expand your options?

KoriFay 03-05-18 07:12 PM

Ha that's true, but I am a college student and don't have a ton of extra cash or time right now. So for me a 5 lug conversion isnt really worth it at this point, maybe later on though.
Right now I just want to focus on finding good, close to stockish options that will help the car perform better without destroying my wallet (more than it already has). The car has been ported, with an OMP delete, Ive redone some of the wiring, cleaned almost everything, and now just want to make it a little lighter than it is right now.

Pretty sure Rays make their Gram Lights in the 4x114.3 bolt pattern. Little more expensive and harder to find but would look great!

Those look really nice, Houston is just a little farther than I want to drive, i am up in North Texas. But thanks for letting me know!

AE86 has the same bolt pattern, might be easier to search for wheels identified for that?
