Junk Yard Jewel...

Just went up to sacramento to hang with a friend and go to the junkyard...found a completely rebuild (less than 2k miles) engine. Power steering blew up and the car hit a wall.

Engine was fine, all seals (apex) are there...rotors are covered in carbon...everything visible says IM AWESOME. So im going to tear into it and use this as my engine build instead of the other one I had.

Its so fresh the seals had rebuild paint on them ^_^ (Not really, but its damn good looking so far)

Ill try to get pictures up...on that note, anyone need an 87 6 port UIM, LIM, and throttle body, in brand spankin new, rebuild condition? (I could eat off the throttle blades)

dude thats an awesome find man! lucky there, how much did you end up picking it up for?

Rotary Noob 07-02-08 08:39 AM

180 bucks all said and done.

I have pictures somewhere...

dude you definitely need to get some pictures of that up on here man

If I can find the cable for my camera, I will put some up tonight after I get home from work.

Im selling the UIM, and LIM with throttle body, that came off of it. I am planning on doing something else for that when I build the motor.

I also have a series 5 upper (with throttle body) and a 4 port (turbo) S5 lower.

If anyone is interested...let me know.

Yeah there was a fair amount of carbon in the depression of the rotors, but no scarring on the faces, no chunks or metal in the oil pan, from what I could see it was just someone that decided to scrap the car after it tagged a wall. Hell it even had a freshly factory rebuilt and sealed NA transmission. I would have snagged that too, but I just finished rebuilding my T2 one...

nice find...can't wait to see some pictures

Unfortunately going to have to wait untill at least July 21st...on vacation in Kentucky with the family. I will be back to work then, and I will tear everything down.

I will have my camera near by and ready for it.

Okay, no pictures yet because I am an idiot that keeps forgetting to bring the camera.

However, all the parts are pretty much new...the housings look like they were used before this build, but the irons have very little wear (cant even feel grooves with a feeler gauge) but it has been run. I dont think it made it through the break in process.

The best thing (for me) about this motor, is that the dumb ass that assembled it, forgot to install one of the oil control O rings on each rotor...all kinds of carbon build up, but no damage. I am currently trying to clean the rotors up, and then onto everything else.

So, this is now my project engine. I will try to get pictures when everything is all cleaned up, or sooner if I remember my camera.

FWIW - This is an example of a thread that doesn't belong in the N/A Performance section.

... thread moved to 2nd gen Non-Technical

I just happened to be cruising there tonight weeding out stuff that didn't belong. There were about a dozen or more threads that had no place being in there.

i want to know how you can look at a junkyard motor and know how many miles are on it.
