Talking Joining the Rotary Heaven (or Hell)

So I was driving around in Hamilton, OH (Pretty much used car kingdom just north of Cinci) on Tues and it was cold and raining and out of the corner of my eye I catch this red flash, I was like wtf? and I was looking for a place to turn around anyway so I figured I'd take a look. Well I found a place and went back and i see this

sitting in a car lot. A 1991 Coupe. Now I've been in the hunt for quite a while, so I was super excited and a little distraught at the same time cause i was thinking this car would be so far out of my price range it wouldn't be funny. So I pull into the lot and just kinda sit in my Corolla and stare...for a while... at THE most beautiful car I have ever seen. Needless to say I went to talk to the people in charge (who happened to be a pretty hot girl) and I was fearing the worst when she gave me the keys. I opened the door and saw to my amazement and delight

An almost pristine interior, small tear on drivers seat, needs a good vacuum but holy freaking crap! This was nice! And I started to get that feeling, yeah you know the one. With much anticipation/dread I turned the key...and she roared to life, did the standard cold start procedure and dropped to a nice smooth 750 rpm. I popped the hood prepared for the dirtiest, nastiest pos you could imagine and this is what I got.

After I let her warm up, we went for a little ride (mind you it was raining pretty hard and fairly cold so I didn't push very hard) and I must say she felt good, I mean really good (granted I'm coming from a 97 Corolla with a whole about 6 hp hitting the ground). She pulled up through 5k which is as high as I got, I have no idea how fast I was going cause the speedometer doesn't seem to be working but that is a non-issue (for now, lol)

Turns out the car was a trade in to a bigger dealership, sat for a while (sometime the speedo, and the odometer stopped working) and then was bought by this hole in the wall, mom and pop little car dealership cause the big place doesn't deal with the small stuff.

Has some damage, was backed into (I think) on the drivers side breaking the mirror (which is duc-taped now lol so I am currently in the market for one), cracked windshield, motor has about 165k on it, drivers seatbelt doesn't work, the windshield wipers are stuck on so I have to physically unplug them from under the hood to get them to turn off, and the normal 17 year old things that always seem to happen.

Overall the car was a steal for the $1995 that they wanted for it. But me being a poor as hell college student, I wasn't about to do that so I talked them down to 1575 with tax.

After the weather cleared up and got to about 60 and sunny (hooray for sun roof!)
My Friend in his Turbo Mr2 and I got on the highway and she pulled, hard, all the way to redline in 2nd and to 7500 in 3rd before we let off, I called him to see what speed we hit before we let off (he was in front) and he said we were at about 90. It just felt so right.

More Pics:

I'll have more pics after a wash and when the weather decides to cooperate a little more
Needless to say I'm pretty freaking happy!

Looks like you picked up a GXL, excellent find!

I also spy a glass sunroof? If it is then you've got yourself an even better deal than you think.

yeah i went to the dealer and they charged me $90 to look at what was wrong and then said that they couldn't fix it as per the recall cause it wasn't the track that was the issue but the switch inside the door,(which they wanted to charge me 300 to fix plus another 800 for the speedo) but the more i thought about it the more i was like wtf? if the switch inside the door was malfunctioning wouldn't that mean that the interior lights would always stay on? plus i can hear the seatbelt motor turning when i start my car but the belt doesn't move nor can i just push it by hand so wouldn't that mean it was the track?

Good find, but I fear for you because like you said the car sat for a while. Can you say rebuild soon?
