Its an 88 turboII , same as mine. BUt dont call the city on him. Just bring cash with you and see if he bites.

well print something out showing the value of the car. show him what a 3k 88 TII looks like.

 

Print out a bluebook value for him: they've stopped pricing everything before 91, so do a 91.. It comes out to $2550 at fair value [almost perfectly matches the description]

Bring that and cash, point out how 91 was the *last* year of the FC which had many improvements over the 87/88 turbo.

Also, what's the mileage? Does it run? Does it run terribly?

If he refuses a $1000 cash offer. Just leave the offer on the table if he turns you down.. He may change his mind.

my neighbor has a 240z sitting in the backyard next to me.. been sitting for 15 years or so.. moved in this house in 08 so I never seen it run. This past weekend he had his buddy fire it up and it ran.. Said nothing is wrong with it.. just body surface rust etc.. dammm sitting in the dirt for the last 15 years, weeds, pittbull dogs around to probably **** on it etc

A couple years back a friend of mine tells me of this old guy who has a 240z.. We go look at it, and he shows it to us and tells me everything about it (was really clean, white interior, had a dealer a/c unit etc) and said it was up to his ex wife since it was hers and she doesnt live there.. I call her up (old lady) and i think i offered like 7-80 to 1000, ... she didn't take it.. Wish I offered more..

 

you people are high if you think even a rotted TII doesn't fetch a premium these days. sure $3k is out there but if you think he won't get less than $1500 then you are stuck 10 years into the past.

TIIs aren't falling out of trees and EVERYONE these days wants turbo parts, i am completely out of stock on almost all FC turbo short block parts and i can't find replacements either.

the only shame in it is that it is sitting on a public street. i wouldn't expect much for a car that i can't at least store in my driveway until someone serious offered a real price for it.

i'd tell you to get the **** out if you offered me $250-500-1000 for a 100% complete TII. i paid $1k for mine when they were still plentiful and i felt i got a good deal for it with a blown motor.

im in the middle of a situation like this...friends '86 fc overheated and rendered the car useless till it gets a rebuild....he bought a '10 mazda 3 sport and so far has no intention of rebuilding the engine even though he says he would supposedly. at times, i need parts and his is in great condition. its not him that im irritated at though. its his mother, she doesnt want that car being parted out for w/e reason and instead to just sit there.

i bought an 87 gxl in the same shape as that T2, for $250. 73,xxx on the odometer, it had sat for 12 years, body was straight as an arrow. this was about 2009 too.

the owners were cool though we had the "what do you think its worth" conversation, we figured $250 was fair, to them!

 

i've gotten 2 non turbo 2nd gens for free. won't ever happen with a turbo car, even a rolling shell.

 

my t2 was sitting for 20 yrs when i bought it. 32k miles and bone stock! stored outside in the woods. sometimes i hate people!! lol. but at least i grabbed it for 500 bucks!

 

Straight body, original t2, looks stock.... $1,500 easy. You don't even know if anything is mechanically wrong with it.

 

im sure it needs stuff. its been sitting 11 years. although it was driven to its resting place all those years ago.

 

Happens with every car though. How many houses do you drive by every day with a random car sitting in the driveway, obviously not moved for years? Everyone thinks they are going to get to that project "One day..." but it never happens.

For years an '82 DeLorean sat at the end of my street. It had sat there since the early 90s, just gathering moss. I tried to buy it for years, first starting with a reasonable offer then slowly moving up into the point where I would be over-paying. I wanted the convenience of just pushing the car into my driveway, I wanted my dream car, and I wanted to save it from rotting away. The guy would always send is wife to tell me "No" and she always said "He's going to fix it up". WTF? He was like 80 years old. By the time he got it fixed up, he'd be dead. Which, incidentally, is what happened. He dies a few years ago and the wife immediately sells off the car (didn't even call me) as well as clears out the 3 "project" boats sitting in his yard. I track down the car a few months later and find out what happened. Was sold to a "mechanic" for little money. He couldn't get it running right because the transmission wouldn't shift properly (actual problem is a 50 cent capacitor in the transmission control module). He sells it for scrap to a local yard. Local yard donates it to fire/rescue where they proceed to cut it up with their various rescue tools as a demonstration. What's left gets scrapped and recycled.

 

haha, funny but sad story. too many people like that in the world. lazy ******** with big dreams and a yard full of crap that they think is gold.

perhaps may happen with this particular car if he won't accept $1500 which is about what it is worth.

but that is odd that no one was willing to adopt a delorean after how many hands it passed through to be chopped by the jaws of life. the stainless steel alone was worth recycling.

 

you know, almost ANY s4 key will work in that thing right? it may go missing one day??
