Help mounting Shine Auto roof spoiler?

So finally my car is coming together. But I'm unsure to mount the roof spoiler. Anyone with input from experience with this would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Celestial-Fc 11-29-12 01:49 PM

double sided tape =D

13bpower 11-29-12 03:26 PM

Post a pic of the surface that mounts to the car. I am interested in this piece as well.

SAMSHIZZLE 11-29-12 04:56 PM

I have the double sided tape. But the hatch sprayer nozzle thing is in the way. Do I cut a notch in the spoiler? Pics coming soon. Headed to the shop now.

sodrifter 11-29-12 05:19 PM

i would just get rid of that squirter over cutting a hole. how often do you use it anyway?

Hypertek 11-29-12 05:37 PM

Shave a notch and you should be good I would think. Get some good quality 3m double sided moulding tape. Did that to my old car, that sucker won't come off. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7094679_n.jpg

Honestly, I never do. I dont think it even works. But still, I'd rather leave it on.

I got some "HEAVY DUTY" 3M double sided tape. Glad to know it wont just flop off. I never trusted that stuff too much.

Get rid of the squirter, USE AN ADHESION PROMOTOR and then just use the double sided tape and it will not come off!

SAMSHIZZLE 11-29-12 06:41 PM

Here's the pics of the squirter… lol

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/samshizzle/8230363939/" title="DSC_0483 by SAMSHIZZLE, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8230363939_06fbec5212.jpg" width="500" height="331" alt="DSC_0483"></a>

Notice the marks from the squirter on the bottom of the spoiler.

Tried to take a best of shot as I could with both hands full.

And the conflict I was having.

I remember reading on the shine website that you need to remove the nozzel (if you have a GXL or T2) to mount it. With those pics you just posted I don't think there is away around removing it to mount the piece.

dammit. Thanks for all of your help everyone.

RadioX7 11-30-12 12:27 PM

yea i had to reamove mine as well no big deal it just pops right out

3vil 12-04-12 08:56 PM

seems like a dremel tool and 5mins of your time would solve this problem

SAMSHIZZLE 12-05-12 08:19 AM

Indeed. It was solved quickly. I was just hung up on the double sided tape. The adhesion promoter was new to me. With that suggestion, it finalized the process.

GuiltySoul 12-06-12 09:08 PM

Did u install it yet? And what adhesion promoter u use?

3vil 12-07-12 01:42 AM

post a pic now that you got it mounted

SAMSHIZZLE 12-07-12 04:38 AM

Its not mounted yet officially. The name of the promoter escapes me. I'll check back later today.

SAMSHIZZLE 12-07-12 04:43 AM

Oh, Rustoleum a rustoleum aerosol can. That, and two thick generous strips of two sided tape. A little heat and it shouldnt go anywhere. When its done, I'll take tons of pics.

sodrifter 12-07-12 07:56 PM

i use bulldog

GuiltySoul 12-11-12 12:19 PM

Hey I got a question may be noobish but w/e, I just got mine yestarday and notice it has a pocket, now does the hatch slide in the pocket? Or does the spoiler just rest on top of the hatch? I notice your hatch was removed so is it easyier to install when its removed?

GuiltySoul 12-15-12 10:26 PM

Bump

SAMSHIZZLE 12-16-12 10:20 AM

I also thought it slides onto the glass with the pocket as you did. By looking at it, it appears that's the case. Now, I realize I'm stupid and know nothing. Its mounted on top of the surface of the glass.

SAMSHIZZLE 12-16-12 10:30 AM

The glass was removed because it was receiving bodywork and paint at the time the pics were taken. It's probably best to mount a spoiler when the glasses installed on the car. I think itd be better to eyeball it.

GuiltySoul 12-16-12 11:31 AM

Ok. Just to confirm, it does slide into the glass right?

SAMSHIZZLE 12-16-12 01:02 PM

No. Placed ON TOP. I can't explain it. I'll take some pics.

Stringbean 05-31-14 09:57 PM

Ok doing a reserection. But I just got mine today and it looks like the fitment it is off. Seems like it's too narrow and the curvature is totally off. And that there is going to be a gap on the side of it. Is this suppose to be like this? I'll post pics later. Unless someone can post a Ariel view of theirs mounted and a close up side profile. Thanks. My lip looks like it fits perfect but the hatch spoiler not so much

Grunswald 07-07-14 10:21 AM

hi, i have mine for almost 3 years now and i'm still afraid of mounting it. As you said, it's a fit too narrow for the hatch. as it is for the moment, if I just use double sided tape, it's almost sure that the side of the wing will touch the hatch before the center part will, hence the side will already stick while the center is not in place... so i was thinking that maybe i could peel the tape protection on the center and let it hang, put the spoiler in place, and then finish peeling the protection carefully to not tear it down while still on the spoiler... not sure if i'm very clear...

Second solution would be to use windshield glue. but it all under the spoiler with maybe 1cm margin with the edge, bring some friend to put it in place, wait maybe 10 minutes to be sure that it wont move and let the glue rest (hoping that in the meantime, a cat will not think it's its new bed...).

alternatively, i heard people telling me to use a heatgun to slightly reshape it to the shape of the hatsh, but i'm not sure the material would react correctly, moreover when the part is already painted.

for the people who managed to install it, do you leave it as it is or do you seal the surrounding with silicon sealant for example to avoid any water ingress ?

Dude, You are over thinking this waaaay too much. 3 YEARS?! What in the hell?

Just mount it, use the best 3m you can find, and use a heat gun.

What's the worst that can happen? It falls off, and you don't have one anymore? Its already gone 3 years without one, so it won't be that bad ehh??

well it already took me 1 year to have it painted... we don't have lot of car related shop around here and most of them have expensive rate for "tuning" work... and i've had lot of thing to do in between like having the engine rebuild, fixing my daily drive car, etc... excuses... biggest problem is that i have a tiny parking spot, with a 30s timing light... excuses again...

my biggest fear is that if the spoiler fall on the highway in another car windshield... and i see the spoiler as the finishing touch of the car... basically once it's installed all i wanted for the car will be on and it blocks me...

and for the heat gun, i'm not sure it will work with a fiber glass part.

But i hope it will be done this summer...

Stringbean 12-30-14 12:01 AM

So I finally got mine installed but I installed it too far up the hatch so now it won't fully open. It looks good but still the fitment wasn't as what I hoped it to be. The 3m double sided tape held extremely well and is proving to be difficult to remove until I get a heat gun to help so that I can remount it.
