FC worthiness in the next 5 years
 

I saw a thread similar to this one over at the FD section so i want it to start one for us.

i believe the way the economy is now the value of the fc is not much but in the next couple of years there will not be many of them in the street. i think a good/clean fc is going to be a least 6000. and t2's like 8000

what do you guys think?

I thiink you'll be hard pressed to find clean FC's in the coming years...already hard to find them now. $6000 for a good clean FC and T2s at $8000 are good prices now. Unfortunately, for such a niche market like ours, I don't think the prices on FC's will go up much more. I just don't think there are a lot of people out there looking to put that much into an FC say vs an FD. Just my opinion.

I bet a clean stock fc t2 would go for 6-7K right now. The problem is you rarely see stock spec ones, most people buy them to build them.

They are already pretty worthless... SO in five years probably still worthless..

Yeah...... They're a niche market.

They seem to be going up in value, that is the all stock ones and the ones that are put together well. But the only people that like FC's are FC guys, FB's and FD's seem to be more sought after.


I hope they stay cheap. Cheaper the cars are, the cheaper and easier it is to find good parts.

there's a nice clean '88 blue vert with new paint sitting in front of my shop right now. needs a motor rebuilt but it is 100% stock. he's trying to unload it for $800, someone get it out of here.

as i mentioned in the other thread...

just because people are asking insane amounts for cars at this moment in time doesn't mean they're moving them.

i do think that people will get premium prices for unmolested clean cars but the problem is and still will be finding someone with cash in hand who is willing to pay that premium price.

go to the classifieds and look at the comical prices people are asking.

FD's will be priced probably 10k more than what they are now. FC's in good condition will gain maybe 3 or 4k in the next five years. every day there are less fc's in the street. they are either in a junk yard or highly modified for either drift or drag. but a CLEAN FC i think will gain a good value over the next couple of years. just my opinion

A clean stock N/A should go for 2500$ and a turbo for 3500$. If altered then it should be on how nicely done it is.

in fl fb & fd are bank fc are cheap... hell i got mine for 975, my wrecked 88 vert parts car for 300,
89 vert 700, and a blown jdm turbo s5 swaped for 700..

Before five years is up You will be lucky to beable to drive anything freely, And who says we will even be using the dollar in five years?

The FC isn't worth anything now. The reason people price them so high is this, most blue books don't go back far enough for the FC. So they get older price guides. Then they factor in that their car is in perfect condition. Then they take ANY mods they have done and add full price to the value of the car. Some even go as far as adding in the price of maintenance.

Mind you, most of these people paid $800-1200 for the car originally.

it all depends on the condition

$300-8k is about the effective price range

300 for a POS parts
8k for a 100% mint, stock, low mileage, immaculately maintained example


comparing to FD's still go for 5k with blown engines....

And this is why I ended up buying a 10th AE FC...lol.

Purchased it for $6k and not even a month owning it I was getting offers of $7k.

It also helps having only 86k miles on the original engine and everything else.

Even if they're worth nothing, I'd still dump money into them.

All it takes is a day on the track to make it all worthwhile.

Most of us buy these cars because we love them. Not because we can make a quick buck off them.

I still own the vehicle. If anything I SAVED this car from the hands of deterioration, she was sitting in a garage for 11 years. It's difficult NOT to mod the car because my intention on buying an RX-7 was to put time and work into it.

I really want another FC, don't get me wrong, but the rotary that made me fall in love when i was 12 years old was my uncle's '85 GSL-SE. I really wanted one bad, but alas I couldn't even find an original one, and given the limited time I had to buy one I couldn't go very far.

My other choice was to go for an FD since I THOUGHT I had enough saved to purchase one, but I guess not. When no one want's to take your $12,000 cash for a decent FD, all I could settle for was an FC.

On that note, this thread was started discussing the FC's value in the next 5 years. So you can go right ahead and start your own thread on how you want to love FC's, that way you can relocate your irrelevant post over there.

I would never buy a fc that is more then $2500.

I rather buy a cheap on and fix it up.

In 5 years, a prestine FC would probably go for atleast 6k, but will somebody pay that absurd amount, depends on if they have money shitting out their wallet.

I dont see FC being that good to be worth more then $2500 no matter how good the condition its in, unless its practically showroom floor condition. I see it as a POS car.

i got my 88 gxl for $300 and a ps3 back in 08. It wasn't running cause it was flooded and needed a slave cylinder. Drove it home the next day while the owner was at work so he couldnt see me change the spark plugs, de flood the car and install the $20 slave cylinder. i replaced the transmission for $75 and the driveshaft for $60 over the pass years and just cruise dailey driven. My best friend still says that was the best $650 i ever spent on a car.

I payed $400 for an S5 with 45k original miles. Few years later, paid the same for an identical one, even down to the mileage.

Paid $400 for the one I have now. The engine had about a gallon of water in it, and the trans had been drained of fluid for years. But I only needed a roller and a title.

But really, I doubt the actual worth of these will go up. Most people aren't interested in a 20+ year old car that drinks gas, is high maintenance, and expensive to repair.

all roterys will drop in value based on buying power of the dollar. except for prime collectors. Reasons being that new engines like the ls1 are smoother, as light, less costly, use less fuel, easier to meet emissions, and then that the newer chassis are more capable with less work. The rx-7 was years ahead of it's time but much time has passed. We will not see 65-67 mustang popularity. 24mpg vs 35mpg makes the miata appealing.
