It's overhead ceiling light plastic with a clear piece of lexan on top of that to protect it from road debri and to make it as thick as original covers. Took all of 4 minutes to make one.

OldSchool-Boost 12-01-11 07:13 PM

Looks decent to me.

Rx-7fetish 12-01-11 07:23 PM

Gotta make some more tonight. I only made that one and I kinda rushed it as a proof of concept kinda thing so the edges are kinda rough. I will take more pics of the finished final ones tonight, might spend 5 minutes on them just to make them nice lol

Hypertek 12-01-11 08:53 PM

They will turn yellow from sun fade

Rx-7fetish 12-01-11 09:42 PM

So, cost me ten dollars for enough material to make about 50 of them. I'll just make a bunch and swap them when they turn.

REAmemiya_fan 12-01-11 09:47 PM

Or you could coat them in a uv resistant clear coat and sell them as a GB and make some good profit off them. Thats what i would do.

And have to deal with all the vendor fees and other red tape on this site?
Anyways, I'll think about that.
My buddy that was supposed to come hang out while I made more bailed and I decided it was to cold and dark to stand in my open, unheated barn alone so for now here are some more pics.
These are all of the rough, quick made one.

I would also like to point out that I have led bulbs in my side markers so they appear white during the day and are amber when on for the front and red in back.

Update!.......... my dremel died. Gotta wait till Xmas to finish this project.

slowgxl 12-08-11 09:16 AM

Life got in the way and there wasnt enough interest to become a vendor.. I may do a group buy or just continue putting them on ebay as I have time to make them.

RotaryEvolution 12-08-11 01:56 PM

got it, if you're only selling one type of item then it's not worth the cost.

people come out of the woodwork with interest but when it comes time to order then "crickets".

Hypertek 12-08-11 02:49 PM

I did those ceiling light lens long time ago.. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...0_852265_n.jpg

uh..... They are clear and they are sidemarkers.......
Also I MADE these, didn't say they were oem quality and as I stated earlier on I'm not super interested in mass making them for money, this was more of a hey check this out, and showing for someone else to possibly make too, these are by no means as nice as yours.
Also to hypertek, if they yellow well were back to square one. I got enough material to make a TON of these for 10-11 bucks from lowes, I'll make more no big deal. This is my daily not a show car. Didn't mean to step on toes or anything with this, just thought hey someone else could make these easy I should put out the word.
I have made a ton of stuff for my car from seein other peoples ideas on the site. Was just trying to give back.

slowgxl 12-08-11 05:09 PM

Thanks for the info man. I'm going to go make some for my car.

Rx-7fetish 12-08-11 06:26 PM

Not a prob, post some pics of your work!

RRTEC 12-08-11 07:16 PM

I have been away from the forum for a while.. The ceiling light thing was done back in 1999 when I first came on here.. So I wasnt thinking that people hadn't heard of it.

My comment was more like crocodile dundee "that's not a knife,..THIS is a knife." no disrepect really, I used to make them out of lexan 15 years ago and frost them from the back, they don't desinigrate when they get wet like the light covers..

I got some new material ceiling light plastic at lowes it's not that brittle as the regular light plastic, it's more like thin lexan I guess, I also cut pieces of lexan to go over them to prevent road debri from messing them up.
