What do you guys suggest to put on the dash, I forget the name of that one common cleaner but it just comes off with the sun and puts nasty shit all over the windows. I'll be cleaning up the back carpets and fixing the radio soon (I took a fellow members advise on what to cover that spot with, made it but the radio doesn't work anymore, gonna have to find out what went wrong :wallbash:).

I'll also be repainting the wiper arms, headlight surrounds, lip. Then I'll give her a sexy bath and show ya guys the rest :)

87 t-66, actually the crap in the back is a windshield cover (Which I use, and is now behind driver seat), a blanket that we used to cover up a guy that had to ride hatchgun one day, sub, and my dads tent which I use to stop the sub from moving around the back. Theres also some various other things back there which I tossed now its all black carpet that needs to be cleaned =D

but ty, it was dirty as hell, hasn't been cleaned near that good for 2 years, and hasen't been cleaned THAT good since it was put together. I also hid all the audio wires better, put on interior pieces that wernt in.

I should be getting the s5 belts fixed tomorrow, then I'll have the back all together and will clean the rear carpets and take some more pix.

I'd say after getting the radio area fixed, defrost vents, and a paint job I'd have a "mint" condition rx7, eh? :scratch:

i've done this like 5 times already mine gets ready dirty realy fast.

Mothers or Mcguires makes the best interior stuff imo.. its not greasy like armoural and they smell good and not too glossy

The only dirty mine gets is cigarette ash, I'm a clean person I guess.

The bumpers and lip are trashed, lip tore off some of the bumper too :(, sucks being so low.

I use armor all on the dash (and other plastic interior parts) and the formula 2001 stuff for the gauge cluster plastic it doesn't leave a nasty film or anything like armor all on the clear plastic, and invisible glass for mirrors and other glass

dont armorall. that shit cracks your dash.

I've used it over the years for my dad and it just goes onto the windows and I wiped excess down with a rag.

Vaseline.
No, seriously...Vaseline.

Actually, generic "petroleum jelly" (which is what Vaseline is anyway) works great.

-Dust off the dash (and any other areas, like the door panels) and get rid of any sticky stuff/goo that's accumulated.

-Use a clean soft rag (old tee shirt) and liberally apply the jelly to the dash...you want to see excess at this point.

-Let it sit an hour or two- preferably in the sun.

-Apply more to any areas that dry out.

-Wipe down with clean rag, then use another clean rag to buff the surface totally clean and dry.

Does not leave a shiny artificial glaze, does NOT attract dust and dirt and actually seems to "revitalize" the vinyl/plastic.

Also works on the hard plastic interior parts (sail panels, kick plate, etc) and seals (door/hatch) but these don't require- or benefit from- the "soaking" phase- just apply ,wipe off and buff. The parts need to clean first-obviously- I removed my panels and cleaned them in the bathtub with warm water and dish soap to remove years or accumulated crud, then dried thoroughly in the sun. I then treated them- still off the car- reinstalled and did the final buff in situ.

A big jar of the generic stuff is only a buck or two at the drugstore (you want the unscented cheap one) and will last quite a while.

I got this idea from a car detailing forum where they absolutely HATE ArmorAll and the like- they claim that silicon based sprays actually accelerate vinyl deterioration.
Don't know if that's true or not but the vaseline has worked exceptionally well for me for over a year...try it and see what you think.

Well I never have the car in the sun will that be a prob or nah? Also I thinkyou said this, vaseline is good on seals right? Sunroof sticks and hatch, I bet that'd fix that.

Could vaseline damage the paint? Not that I really care bout mine in particular but may be good to know for others. When I get my car back from mazda I'll give this a try and snap some daytime pics so the difference can be seen :icon_tup:

Did you wash your parts in warm water? I washed my cigarette ashtray in warm water and it discolored it :( but yeah I take the parts off and wash em off.

I've always heated up the interior in sunlight first...it seems to aid the vinyl in absorbing the jelly.
No, it won't hurt paint at all.

Not sure what effect lubing the seals on the sunroof would have, from what I understand those problems are mostly motor/track related and vaseline wouldn't help that.

I washed my parts in hot water in the bathtub, with dish soap.
I used a sponge with a fairly soft "scrubby" on one side to really attack the textured areas.
Then rinsed and washed again...there was a lot of grime built up.
Don't recall any discoloration and the vaseline made them look almost new again.

Interested to hear what you think.

I just gotta push slightly on the sunroof after the first few times a day it seems to go up okay.

I'll put some vaseline all over the interior parts, and fix my seats tmrw, and show before/after pics.

Then you'll know what I think :)

Uhm ^ for wheels, and my wheels are clean.

i use saddle soap on my dash, leather and vinyl parts.

It's sweet because it doesn't dry out the material like armor-all and windex (alcohol-based cleaners) do.

Soft plastics are made of brittle plastics and "plasticizers" which are really just oil. Rubber is nothing more than a kind of soft plastic. There are a lot of home made solutions to restore vinyl & other plastics & rubber that involve soaking in some kind of oil or grease. Vaseline is "petroleum jelly", which is just a light grease / thick oil depending on how you look at it.

Plastics get old through the evaporation of oil and cross-linking of the plastics as they react with UV light (which makes the plastic hard/brittle). I'd also get some kind of UV protectant. Research a bit to avoid the garbage products I guess, or just try Zaino or Mothers. But lucky for you darker colors hold up best against UV b/c the pigment absorbs a lot of it instead of the plastic. That's why tires and most other rubber are black. And b/c carbon black is cheap as soot.

Mmmm, now I want to clean my interior even more. Anyone have any tips for getting rid of super old stains & discoloration of upholstery?

fawk man it's not gonna get sunny over here anymore.

I'm thinking about putting it on and getting a extension cord and using the blow dryer on the low heat setting esp so it doesnt warp and interior parts.

Not necessary.
Just put it on and let it set a while.
