ArtOfRuin's S4 GXL
Here are some pics of my 1987 Mazda RX-7 GXL. It's a break-in victim I'm going to be turning into a summer and autocross toy. It's a little scruffy and has some minor mechanical and electrical issues to be dealt with, but the price was right, there's almost no rust on the body or suspension, and the car has a 10K-mile rebuilt 13B in it.

I cleaned out the drain holes yesterday and patched up the seal with duck tape as a temporary solution, till I get a new one. If you can't duck it, fuck it. http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...exterior06.jpg http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...7/engine01.jpg It'll also need a repaint, eventually: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n.../sunroof01.jpg And now, for what's left of the interior: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...interior04.jpg I recently resoldered the horn relay. The P.O. installed another horn and rigged it to work off of a doorbell. You can also see the knifed ignition. I have to use a screwdriver to help start the car. It almost looks like I'm hotwiring my own car. http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...interior01.jpg Note the Razo shift knob so I'm not tearing up my hand on the threads when I shift: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...interior02.jpg The relays in the wiper switch are toast. I'm waiting for new ones to arrive. Until then, I'm using the P.O's Mickey-Moused wiper switch: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...interior03.jpg |
time to clean the bird stains and that engine bay full of "Hollies"
looks good tho, a lil bit of spit and shine and some missing piece will make her look better |
That ain't bird shit, it's dried tree sap, and it's a bitch to get off, epecially with the wind chill at 0 degress F! I've cleaned some of the leaves out since I took the picture. Cosmetics can wait, however; I'm more worried about the mechanical stuff I have to fix. I'm waiting for a day when the wind isn't gnawing my face off to replace the thermostat and front wheel bearings. I also have to replace the oil pan gasket. I know someone who has a shop and cherry picker he'll let me borrow and some S5 interior parts for sale, but it's an hour and a half drive. I'd like to have the cooling system up to snuff before I take my S4 onto the highway.

Thanks everyone for your encouragment. I know I have some work ahead of me, but I have some parts already on the way. I probably won't do much work on it this week because I have to help prepare for Thanksgiving, but next week I'll man up, bundle up, brave the cold, and get to work. |
