Anyone got a set of Billet Hood Spacers on there FC???

anyone ever got a set of Billet Hood Spacers on there car??? like the ones you see on ebay or any other brand???

does it help let your engine run cooler with more airflow and let excess hot air leave the engine bay?????

pictures please =]

NJpopups 11-11-09 08:05 AM

I read a couple articles saying they actually do lower intake and engine temps. Would love to know if anyone has the billet spacers since they're only 35$

Omixeo 11-11-09 08:08 AM

I think password jdm or one of those kind of companies has them for sale.

Twins80s 11-11-09 08:22 AM

I had the set from ebay. They are kinda adjustable as to how high the hood sticks up. This is with them set as high as they can go. And my co-worker makeing fun of my car. I saw cooler temps on my coolant gauge.

Nice. Definitely plan on doing this since going FMIC and NA hood. Looks great.

Rob XX 7 11-11-09 09:06 AM

billet spacers, lol

87 t-66 11-11-09 09:48 AM

they make you look like a ricer. don't forget the sleepy headlights.

stevensimon 11-11-09 09:59 AM

i think lowe's sells spacers for 5 cents a piece.

Spirit-RE 11-11-09 10:39 AM

I've read that hood spacers actually decrease cooling efficiency, due to the fact of higher air pressure at the cowl, feeds air in backwards therefore counteracting the air flowing forwards through the radiator.

And plus it makes you car look like a honda.

But if you want to spend extra money on spacers, run your car hotter, and look like a ricer, go for it.

Rob XX 7 11-11-09 11:01 AM

remove 2 of the 4 bolts that hold the hood on, prop the hood up in the air, take a drive and tell us how you did.

airquin23 11-11-09 11:58 AM

I have this done to my car except i used a longer bolt and put a couple nuts in between. (didn't feel like spending any money on spacers.) It works just the same. As for the cooling it does help with cooling efficiency, I saw it in a magazine. It just doesn't make sense why it would make your car run hotter. Personally I think it looks good but thats just my opinion.

Meh, even if it had some miniscule cooling effect, I still wouldn't do it. I'd rather put my time into some proper ducting.

SirCygnus 11-11-09 02:59 PM

yah, it works. the main problem is your head being severed by a hood during a front end collision.

Turbo II Rotor 11-11-09 03:34 PM

There is no way the hood is gonna cut through the a pillers, it would just buckle.

DC 91 fc3s 11-11-09 04:59 PM

lol.... i guess ill just go the cheap way and jack some washers from homedepot haha and buy some longer bolts to make the size gap i want like i did on my 91 DA.. i didnt want a huge gap like the ones you see on ebay..

thanks for the input

Reading someone say something and seeing someone post credible results from testing are two different things. One of the magzines I have shows test of underhood temps being lower. I have ran the spacers and saw cooler temps on my own car with an aftermarket gauge.

You can't do the washer trick on an FC due to the angle of the bracket being on a 45.

Will Work

WILL NOT Work

DC 91 fc3s 11-14-09 04:30 AM

thanks for the info

Yes you can. I did it to my car. I spaced the hood hinge out from the chassis. Not the hood from the hinge, like on 240's.

DC 91 fc3s 11-14-09 07:55 PM

^ any pictures of how your set up looks like?? just for reference

my buddy made mine 7 years ago, when we were 16 and i've had them since i'll post pics, and yes they do work. sitting at a light with the e-fan on you can feel the wind blow out the back, pretty cool, let me know if anyone is intrested, it makes the windshield hot

w.sen 11-16-09 11:09 PM

Any pics of non turbo hoods like this? And how much higher is it at the top??

angledcurbpetition 11-17-09 12:56 AM

So not to be debby downer but how does this effect the catches at the rear of the hood?

Sorry I should have been clear. In order to do it your way you have to take the fenders off .... unless there is some trick I'm missing.

Slade Gunar 12-24-09 10:27 AM

i ordered a set the other day for my n/a fc, ill post pics when they show up. wit the sleepys popped of course. all the spanish guys at my job call me
\\vanilla rice//

jdm_emperor 12-24-09 01:26 PM

i was thinking about doing this with spacers but after seeing pics in this thread, decided not to.:icon_tup::nod:

RE TurboII 12-25-09 01:39 PM

I had to take off my fender and cut a small bit off of it. Part of the fender blocks where the hinge meets the chassis.

Natural selection. Everyone has been warned. 6-7 years ago when this first came up on RX-7 club it was referred to as the "decapo-hood". I've never seen an example of this happening but I certinly won't be the first.

Slade Gunar 12-26-09 02:35 AM

if your that worried about getting decapo'd in a crash why not just upgrade to stronger grade bolts or put pins in your hood.......
kind of reminds me of how they tell people bezelbub will come out of your muffler and choke you to death and your cars wiring harness will fry and it will rain frogs because you put sleepy eyes on your supra......
some people will say anything to detur you from doing it because they dont agree with how it looks basically...
its not about look, its about function just like sleepy eyes...but alot of people dont understand that or the real purpose it serves,
personally i dont see how that hood would make it past the pillars, and if your going that fast to buckle the hood bad enough to bust the bolts chances are you just killed the person in the other car.......

Hypertek 12-26-09 12:39 PM

^yeah, remember, modding cars isnt for everyone. Lowering your car has the risks of busting it up,esp with bodykits. Or just like upgrading your parts decreases value lol

Furb 12-26-09 12:53 PM

hood spacers are lame...

they ruin the line of every car and most people dont even know what this mod does...

86glxNA 07-18-15 01:44 AM

I really dont think hood risers are ricey. I had them on my cressida just made some riser out of wrist pins and i pretty much instantly noticed a difference the engine felt peppier, didnt tick as bad and just seemed to run a lot happier. And even if they are ricer i say fuck it and run em because the facts are they do reduce engine bay temps. Form over function. Especially when youre driving your car hard and especially with a smoking hot rotary. I do think it is better to cough up the money and buy a real hood vent but living in the pacific northwest it rains 3/4 of the year so we dont really get the pleasure of hood vents so hood risers are a good way to go around here

JerryLH3 07-27-15 07:22 PM

Holy thread resurrection!

Just realized I bumped up a week old post myself.

djSL 07-31-15 04:26 PM

If you can't afford .05 washers, I feel like that may be a good indication of the rest of your cars future and build quality.
