89 GTUs - Interior re-install

Hey! Question please...

I bought my GTUS this past spring from a buddy for $3k. He'd bought it to use as a track car.

He swapped the suspension, put in a roll-bar, and removed the carpet liner on the deck and rear wheel wells.

I want to put the interior back in BUT would have to either remove the roll bar (don't want to...would like to take her out myself on the track in the fall or the spring). I could cut the carpet and fit it around the roll bar.

Is there a value to keeping the interior pieces un-cut? There's VERY LITTLE that's not original on the car.

Suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Bill

i think a slice in the carpet in two/four places would be pretty unobjectionable, especially since you drilled a bunch of holes to mount the roll bar.

so as long as the interior fits cleanly and wouldn't look cut up if you took the bar out, you'd be fine

any value to uncut pieces is offset by you not being able to enjoy the car more
if you are really worried I would try to find replacement parts and use those to cut and keep the originals somewhere, but I doubt the cars will ever be worth something where that stuff would matter.

Might just take the rollbar out <ugh> put the interior in, then put the rollbar back in over the carpet...coupla' holes vs. a huge slice through the carpet. Thnx!

I'm in Dale City and have a roll bar in my GTUs with full interior. Give me a call or text if you want to take a look. 571-282-9537.
You'll have to cut it, or take out the rollbar, Cutting and fitting the panels was a PITA.
I'm probably going to gut mine after my build is done.

It's sounding like taking the roll bar out, then drilling up from the bottom of the car through the existing holes for the roll bar is the best option. I'll put it on the "list" of things to do while she's up on the lift! Thnx!

I would like to see pics of the trunk deck with a complete interior, though. I have moldings (self explanatory where they go), luggage tie downs, deck light to put back in. BUT I have one odd (maybe 4 x 6" ish) piece of carpet with a thumbscrew lock that i don't know where to put. I don't know if it's supposed to cover the jack well, or should it cover the hatch locks. I only have one.

Damn...you're not far. I'm in Fairfax. If we cross paths you can't laugh at my car, k?
