If those are camber plates (and it looks like they are) are you sure those are oriented correctly? Looks like you'd be adjusting camber and caster if you moved those...If at all possible shouldn't they be pointing toward the center of the engine bay?

0verb00st 07-27-09 01:44 PM

Its either more camber more caster or more camber less caster. theres no way to adjust camber without caster on these plates.

sharingan 19 07-27-09 04:03 PM

....interesting...

How are they workin out for you so far?

Hypertek 07-27-09 04:09 PM

good job i spoke with someone who does thier plates like that and it helped alot with thier drifting, i think he said he got better response with it

K!NCH 07-27-09 04:27 PM

Does it really make that big of a difference? And can you just rotate the tops? Obviously have to take them out to do so. But I noticed heypertek's strut bar is drilled.

this was the black s4 from pbm

That car is badass! I'm still interested to know WHY that setup makes the car more responsive for drifting, and whether those benifits are exclusive to drifting?

0verb00st 07-28-09 01:10 AM

They are legit. caster gives you more camber as you turn the wheel. the more caster you have, the less camber you need for the same amount of cornering grip.
the downside to too much caster, is that it increases steering effort.

K!NCH 07-28-09 07:43 PM

So just rotating the tops won't give too much caster?

Dude I have been trying to ignore your posts that blame the car... but seriously, you were behind the wheel. Take responsibility... Its not the bushings, it is an inexperienced driver that OVERestimated HIS abilities to drive his car. I have driven cars that have had SERIOUS failures on the road without crashing or spinning.. (driveshaft broke and launched the car in the air, Rear subframe mount snapped on another car, Clutch disk seperated and shot through belllhousing, Rear wheel shattered at 80mph, the list goes on.........) I never once blamed my car, but I guess they never resulted in a crash like yours did... You need to hit up the autocross course.

My 02... Pull the engine, coilovers, any other good parts (body included) and look for a shell...

The car is not worth fixing..

I have both my camber and caster almost maxed out and I like it. Its all personal preference though.

I know I fucked up...i fixed my car and it drives like new. Why waste money on a new shell?

Some encouragement lol my car is an S5 n/a all stock pretty much

I have a ton of good roads to drive out here in ontario

theres one that is called snake rd 240 guys always challenge me with there Sr20'd and coilover'd cars the last 2 guys hit guard rails trying to keep up with me on all seasons...

I really really don't think it was the Dtss that screwed you up in all honesty it was Lack of experience no offense ment

But i can drive my car right on the edge and drift with it being 100% stock and it never has snapped out on me where i was trying not to

I am planning on buying a stud dent weld puller down the road and getting an alignment ASAP. I drove it around a little bit and the rear end seemed to be hopping around.

I had similar tires on my FC, I spun out in the rain. These cars do not grip well in the rain bro, if you were driving normal you wouldn't of crashed. I know from first hand, not trying to attack you. You don't need to be like "oh i was wreckless blabla" just take note in your head you fucked up, do we care that you wernt drifting, what about a spirit drive? When I leave my house I almost always went on a spiritual drive, I knew my FB's limits in the rain (I had nearly slicks, so I kept it calm above 25mph) never an issue. The fc I went to swerve from somthing, was first rain and uber slippery, I should of been more cautious I've been on that road for the past 6 years, I should of taken it easier considering that the fc lets loose in the rain, my dad crashed the car when my grandma first bought it in 1991, or the christmas after. He went to move it and it hit this weird gear (automatic) and just started going, then spun when it reved more.... anyways.

Keep up man, for me I have to move and such so I sold stuff and made cash I could to get a car, now fixing it and doing even more $$$ jobs cause I am mobile, soon I can move to where my business is located (Have a partner) then Ill hopefully have income for more.

I still need insurance, I feel your pain :(

RRTEC is pretty ball on, I didn't read the whole thread but I used to deny (to myself) that it was mother natures fault, another member got blown on a highway overpass/bridge like thing in the rain.... coulda been the suspension he had adjusted neg camber.

Did you have neg camber? With an independent suspension the geometry of the suspension (esp with dtss) will change quite dynamically and by changing tire size, suspension parts (ride heights, etc) wheels, camber, anti sway bars, you change your car. With DTSS I'm sure this can change even more differently which may be better to eliminate it, if anyone knows I'd like to hear if this is true. :) I've come to like solid rear ends, my FB mmm... and now got a modifed turbo volvo... had no issues in the rain or turns with either mentioned.

Coilovers VS Engine swap
A forum member here Mazpower always tells me never to go turbo, now that I got a turbo volvo which honestly feels like a mix between my FB (axle rear end, however open diff so it's alike my 91 rx7 with that) and my brothers BMW (The feel of the car, he had a 7 series with gigantically wide stock wheels (7 or 8") and it'd keep up with my prior rex's in the twisties. the last car. I've been learning about volvo's and well buttdyno and what others say, it should be around 200~ rwhp. Civics and such would toy with me in my 91 and 85 rex's, some not. In this volvo boosting by them I've never beenable to catch them on, they normally act like a dog with tail between legs.... and all my friend's comments, the cars fucking fast, even more so for a sedan - most of my friends rode with me in the twisties in both of my rx7's going extremely fast, they know I'm good, so in the volvo just as they expected, I've not beenable to go quite as fast on the twisties, why? One reason is the bald tires (right rear is god awful), the suspension seems to of been upgraded alittle but needs anti sway bars or stronger ones, the chassis has little flex and it's balanced between under and oversteer.

If I was you, with what I can understand from this thread (read alil more and edited this) I'd go with normal suspension upgrades and just generally nicely upgraded the suspension, all bushings and such and bring it back to off the factory, but improved. Then adjust it to your liking, you gotta think do you need more power or do you want coilovers to play with?

I sold it for 3000 and bought a turbo supra. Probably one of the bigger mistakes I have made in my life.
