'87 TII - Sportmax 962's in Gunmetal

I got the tires mounted and balanced last week and was able to install the new wheels.

I got 17x7 and 17x9 w/ +38 and +35 respectively and am currently running Kumho Ecsta ASX's in 225/45-17 and 245/45-17.

I have seen a few sets in gold and silver but had not seen the gunmetal until I bought them. I just got the KYB AGX's and RB springs in and haven't had a chance to drive it yet so it still has to settle. I might run a small spacer up front, what do you guys think?

Looks much better with some new wheels. I like them a lot. A spacer in front would be nice IMO. Next you're going to paint that fender, right? Or the whole car? :)

t24todd 06-01-08 05:47 PM

so you put the springs on and she is still that high..if only the front had a deeper lip closer to the rear i would def get these wheels..hey looks hell lot better than the moon pies though rite..

ooh sexy NJ! i like a lot man!

NJGreenBudd 06-01-08 07:15 PM

Hey thanks.

I know these aren't the lightest wheels, but I'm not building a pure race car. These were affordable and have a sweet fit without any complications.

I am hoping that once I drive it it will settle a bit, the RB's are only a 1" drop from stock ride height. It's certainly higher than it was with the blown stock shocks and springs.

I like em a lot, definitely better than the stockers, plus we have new sweet rubber. I even got the black "tuner" lug nuts so it's all ninja.

I like! If the car settles some it will only look better.

Needs to be lower. Tanabe GF210 springs will lower it 1.8" or so.

NJGreenBudd 06-04-08 09:44 AM

I already had the 210's and was experiencing a problem with the fit with the stock wheels, these are wider than the stocker and still clear with the RB springs. I also had tried the Tein S. Techs. I am not so much concerned about it being on the ground, I'm sure once I drive it and it settles it'll be plenty low for me. A stock FC's ride height is low for around here, my driveway is more like a mountain trail than a road. I would like to have it sit at the lowest possible height and still have clearance from potholes and bumps and to get in and out of my driveway.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!
See a lifted RX7 go up against Grave Digger in a 4X4 truck jumping competition!

Dont be too concerned about ride height. I have the exact same combo on my Sport and it sits a good inch lower than your pictures. It does sit a little higher in the rear on my car, but that could be because I have no bins, spare, or jack. It is a very fun setup. Well worth the money, imo. I too went from blown original struts to the AGXs and it was like driving a new car. Enjoy!

NJGreenBudd 06-04-08 07:53 PM

I would love to jump the TII!!

:score:

The pics were taken shortly after the wheels were installed, the jack was removed only minutes before. I also replaced all the shock mounts and spring seats. I'm just waiting on the new rear differential to arrive so I can finally drive it again. I am sure it will be a lot nicer of a ride with the new suspension and wheels.

What size spacer would you guys recommend if I were to run one in the front, +5mm or so??

meatishtapehelmet 06-05-08 11:20 AM

haha you have a great sense of humor. Good luck with your car dude, it's coming along.

NJGreenBudd 06-05-08 10:00 PM

How can you dump $12K into an '87 Mazda and not laugh at yourself??

KhanArtisT 06-05-08 11:02 PM

Looks great, the brakes look sweet too. Did you really have to get expensive all seasons though...lol sorry its just a pet peeve.

NJGreenBudd 06-05-08 11:20 PM

Thanks man. I had ordered the Ecsta MX's but they were on back order and I couldn't wait, plus these were cheaper and are still great tires. These bastards are W rated for 168mph and I can drive it in an ice storm too. pretty sweet right? I also run these Kumhos daily on my Volvo S60 and have really liked them so far, driving +100 miles to work and back....

NJGreenBudd 06-10-08 05:31 PM

Well, I put the differential in it and got a chance to drive it with the new wheels, suspension and brakes. It did settle a bit, the front is still just a bit high though. Shitty pics too, sorry bout that.

Dendrobates 06-10-08 05:40 PM

That settled a lot. looks much better IMHO

NJGreenBudd 06-10-08 06:08 PM

I was hoping it would. I just gotta find out whats making a knocking sound in the rear passenger's side strut tower now and we'll be set.

Dendrobates 06-10-08 06:33 PM

oh and the front tires may look like there is a bigger gap beacues they are 7/10ths of an inch shorter in diameter. Also they don't come as far so they are not as close to the lip as the rears are.
