86 N/A to TII project - started today

My long awaited n/a to turbo II project is almost complete. Here's the story in a nut shell.......bought a supercharged 91 last year and did a turbo II swap only to learn the harnesses were not plug and play with the 88 TII swap. Bought and sold a Haltech E6X cause I was to lazy to wire it up. Car sat in my garage for about 8 mos. Found a running N/A 86 GXL for $800. Pulled the turbo motor out of the 91 and dropped it into the 86. Today I turned the key for the first time and the car started right up. Now here comes the "almost complete" part. The motor sounds very strong but the turbo smokes when the car comes up to temp. I'll either have to rebuild or buy another turbo. Not blaming the member who sold me the motor but I wish he had told me the turbo smoked before I bought it. Would have been nice to have it rebuilt/replaced while the car was down. Anyway here is a pic of my ride.

looks good. should have kept the haltech IMO but at least you got it up and running. a few critiques if you dont mind...
get a koyo or aftermarket radiator. its a great investment and makes the engine bay look nicer. relocate the battery. also, i also dunno if its a good idea to have your spark plug wires sitting on the intercooler piping like that. those are some nice wires though, i have them on both my cars and are the only ones ill use. now's the time to upgrade to a s5 turbo since you will be pulling that one anyway. car looks great, you should be happy with it. |
Not sure if These cars have them but you might want to check where the oil lines go into the turbo. Maybe theirs a broken washer?
Looks like a solid setup. :icon_tup: |

the taurus fan is solid. best fan to use IMO...fits the radiator perfectly and works great.

Well the smoke from the turbo has subsided but is still visible every now and then. Anyway I came across another issue today when I tried to drive the car. Whenever I give the car gas (in 1st gear) it begins to rev up and down until I take my foot off the gas pedal. Car is fine at idle so if I had to guess I'd say it is my tps.
Anyone have a working S4 TII TPS f/s? |
Zip tied? I would have thrown a fit when it came in the mail. What the hell is wrong with people?
