86-87 Sport model owners

How many are there?? I've only seen a handful of real sport models in person, & have 2 currently. There's not much information out there about them, either! Post in here with what you know- Production numbers, facts, etc

The LATE 87's got T2 seats/door panel fabric, as well as the "better" carpet as the '88 year transistioned in.

"T2" brakes & suspension

Dat aero

Post your VIN's too maybe? To make it a true owners club thing, similar to the GTUs thread haha. Maybe I just like sports too much...

Here are my 2, to get things rolling

Late '87 with sunroof, artic silver

Early '87, non sunroof, white? (don't have vin's or paint codes off hand.)

Both cars now have full aero, though the pictures aren't up to date on that.

I thought sport accessories were a dealer option, like the spoiler, lip, and mud flaps. A person would have to buy the sport parts separately, but im pretty sure that there are models that came with the full package but im not sure if it can be identified in the Vin #.

it might be a little tricky to spot the sports, as the spoiler was both part of the sport package and an accessory.

just looking at that a real sport has the aero kit, rear spoiler, PS, non tilt wheel, the 15" alloys and 4 piston brakes.

AC, cruise control, sunroof and the tape deck/eq were optional.

My sport did not have PS, so that may have been an option as well. Bought it for 500 bucks, and put about 40k on it before the motor quit while my brother owned it.

It was a fun first car, it rode a bit high because of the t2 suspension, and it didn't have rear bins also. It did have AC though, haha.

Now, maybe I'm reading this wrong but on all those options sheets, the aero kit got an S for standard on the sport, but N/A on all other models (represented as a dash).

I'll post some up to date pics of the white one + the aero I've got when I get home from work

Couple more louver pics. That 4 lug car has full sport aero too, lol.

An REW sounds like a blast! Post some pictures!

To anyone else reading I'm always looking for aero bits, if you've got some to sell.

All '86 sports had a manual rack, PS became standard in '87. I miss my sport.

nope not yet i still have to do the wiring for the pfc and missing the water pump housing and power steering pump waiting for those to come in. Then i should be able to start it at least.. but still have to make the down pipe and intercooler piping. then getting the entire car painted.

I've owned two 86 Sports. First one didn't have power steering and I had the window sticker to confirm model. That one got wrecked and parted. Second one that I've got now does have PS although I'm in the process of removing it. No window sticker to confirm but has all the same bits as my original one did to include belly pan and full front lip. No bins in the back etc.

Landon303 - Can you post some pics of the latch hardware for the louvers and the underside? I've got what I've been told are factory louvers but am curious to see another set. They are made of fiberglass and the slats are rivited to the vertical risers. I've had more than a few of them break at the rivet points here in the last year as the fiberglass become quite brittle. Debating on trying to fix it or pass it on to someone who is willing.

Nice!! I'll get some louver H/W pics tomorrow.

Looking at buying another sport tomorrow, it's an 86, artic silver, but supposidly has 25k on a mazda reman engine! $600 only, haha. I'll post some pictures of it as well tomorrow.

I can't believe your car's P/S-less. It's an early '86 car (had an orange clock & orange 10th place on odomete, plus that relocated coolant overflow bottle) so maybe that explains it? Totally NEVER knew that though, good research!

It's ROUGH but I'll take care of it. only 25k on a mazda reman engine, fired right up for me, wow! Can't wait to strip this one down. Going to build a car rotissare for this guy, hah

I am 99% sure my car is an early 1987 model Sport. It has the sport wheels but doesn't have power windows and cruise and such. It has the aero pieces on the bottom, but some of them need to be re-attached.

Nathan-

Cruise was an option on sports, so it may/may not have it, but would still be a sport. ALL sports had manual windows. BEST way to tell- open your door, on the chassis next to the door latch there's a VIN sticker, and it lists the build date of the car, month/year. I *think* a 6/86-1/87 will be an early 87, and up to 6 or 7 of 87 will be late. Anything before 6/86 would be an 86 model. Plus or minus a few months, this is the month/year break down

I've "rigged" sagging aero by using hardware rather than the plastic clips to attach the front pieces, just a thru-bolt & a nut did it for me. Get those rare pieces fixed!

LOL, so as it turns out, I have some history with this particular wrecked sport, but didn't even know it until a day after purchasing it!!

So, 5 years ago, i found an '87 sport modelon a road about 6 miles south of me, at an apartment complex. It was there all the time, except at night, guess whoever owned it worked nights

2 years ago I noticed it had rear ended someone

1 year ago, it disappeared

We even left a note on it, saying we wanted to buy parts off of it lol (aero, of course), since it was wrecked
Well, i neverfound it in any junkyards, who knows where it went

Turns out its the SAME car but i didn't realize it until Sunday, & called the guy i got it from to confirm! was a 1 owner car up until a year ago, when she sold it to a co worker who used it for parts, but gave up on his project, & only removed like 3 parts from the car, but still has all of them!

LOL!!!

so here i am, butt-hurt for a whole year that this sport got crushed, which could have been saved and it turns out I own it!

Funny how small a world it is. This confirms I'll be restoring it

My first FC is a Sport. Unfortunately, the duckbill is the only 'special' piece left on it. But it's a hard top, manual everything, with 5-lug/4-piston brakes. ]

Unfortunately the body is in pretty bad shape and the engine recently let go .

So my car is definitely a sport, and an early '87 as it was made it '86. It still has the aluminum aero aluminum plate underneath, front lip, and both left pieces but the right 2 are missing :/

need_rx7 you've gotta save it! if i'm saving that primer piecacrap a few pics up, it's only fair, right? Mine has rust too, orig a NJ car.

ngd that aluminum piece is ALWAYS missing, it wouldn't be hard for you to find those other pieces if you look/wait a little while, they'll end up popping up
