The older these engines get the more it's a crap shoot. No one buys an imported engine anymore expecting it to be good. A lot of them don't even have usable parts. This has been covered a lot and you're bound to have the same people throw their two cents in and say "I bought an engine from x and it's been running great for x amount of time". Good for them, they're the minority by a landslide.

A "minority landslide" sounds like a Republican's worst nightmare.

I just go to a Car meet as a passenger..
Pick a nice car that runs, jimmy the lock and "poof"..I got me a nice engine!
Don't tell anyone..(I won't get a ride next time!)

If I had to grab an engine I'd be looking around on here, seriously.
I trust the guys here more than picking one up from a JDM shop.
..and IF I had a bad engine,I'd just get the damn thing rebuilt. At least you know the parts would be new.

Just buy an entire car from Japan and sell whatever you don't use :)

Im missing pretty much an entire engine and all the components! Does anyone know of any companies that sell successful jdm rotary stories?
