What engine part is this?
Hello - I'm about to have AC installed on my 88 10th Anniversary RX7. When looking under the hood I noticed this which doesn't have a belt attached. I've spent hours looking online for engine diagrams, etc so pardon my idiot question that I'm sure will be super obvious to most people. I try but just can't figure out what it is.

That's the A/C compressor. I'll bet the clutch for it took a crap and the PO just unplugged the whole thing.
EDIT: here's one on ebay for under 100 bucks. https://www.ebay.com/i/183485964136?...UaAu1UEALw_wcB |
That is the smog pump, AC compressor is on the drivers side

oops! :dunce:
Thanks rx3 |
Thank you! Does anyone see any AC components in these pix? I'm getting all of the AC parts I need for an install but curious if this ever had it. I imported it from Canada and the previous owner said it never had it, but I find that hard to believe with a 10th Anniversary.

I see no A.C. components in the picture, and the locations where some of the components go appears to be untouched. To be honest its possible that it didn't have, being a Canadian spec car. It also has ABS, which is very rare on a 10AE.
You will go through a lot of time, money and labor to install A.C. the 10AE had a different compressor unique to the TII. You will have to pull the dash to install an evaporator core and you will want to buy one from an 88 TII, you will need a condenser, which mounts in front of the radiator, a compressor, all of the lines, a reciever/dryer, the mints for the lines. It's an awful lot of trouble for A.C. personally I wouldn't bother. Windows down and sunroof open are great for summer cruising! |
It is relatively easy to strip the AC components from the engine bay without leaving evidence but slightly more involved- and therefore frequently overlooked- to remove them from the dash.
Does your logicon have the AC controls? Is there an evaporator in the heater ducting? |
