Weird electrical issue
With no load on the car(neutral), rev it up and around 4k it cuts out.
Put it in gear, and I can get up to about 2500 rpm before it'll cut out. Does this sound like an issue with the alternator, coils or maybe a grounding issue? |
Could you describe how it cuts out?
Over the internet it does seem like a fuel issue at first glance. When did this start happening? What has been done to fuel system? Ignition system? A list of what's been done would help us. |
'Cuts Out:' shuts off as if I turned the ignition to off. Doesn't slowly die, it's immediate.
I guess I'm looking for info as to how to diagnose because I've replaced much since last I had it on the road, so it's hard for me to figure out which component is likely to cause the issue. The engine has been rebuilt<5k Injectors<5k Replaced the body-battery ground Replaced the alternator-battery wire Replaced injector wiring Rebuilt 3rdgen alternator<5k Haltech high output ignition coils<10k Refurbed CAS<5k Replaced CAS wiring Haltech elite 1500<10k Walbro fuel pump <10k FPR<5k BNR turbo I think that's the majority that's been done. I haven't driven it much in the past 2 years and not at all in the past year. This started happening just before I stopped driving it a year ago(didn't have the time to dig into the cause of this problem then). Initially, there would be a cutout around 4k, but would come back on-similar to the 3800rpm issue, (but I'm not running the stock ecu and I don't believe my secondaries are staggered like stock). This would happen under load. Now this happens with no load, but under load it will totally shut down. |
Fuel filter? Fuel sock?
|
I changed the fuel filter when I changed the engine. Also, the fuel pressure gauge doesn't show a pressure drop when it cuts out.

I replaced the fuel filter<10k ago, also the fuel pressure gauges doesn't show a pressure drop when it cuts off.
|
Replaced the Haltech and been running for a few days with no issues so far. I guess when all else fails, swap out the ecu.
