Turbo kit in 2022
 

What turbo kit/setup would you guys suggest here in 2022? I know it's getting harder and harder to get good new reputable parts these days. So I'm reaching out for some advice. My current turbo set up is a S4 motor with a S5 manifold and and BNR Stage 2 turbo, both the manifold and exhaust housing have some cracks in it. So I'm looking to replace all that stuff. Any advice would be appreciated

Maybe someone else can chime in with which specific model though it would depend on your power goals but I hear good thing about the Borg Warner EFR turbos for ones with an internal wastegate. They aren't cheap though.

I've looked them up before in the past, you reminded me of them. Thanks for that. My power goals are pretty normal, I want around 350 wheel, nothing too extreme. Looks like building out their entire 400hp setup is like $8k, so not cheap but comes with most of the necessary mods to support the turbo setup which is good. I'd rather spend more and get better quality stuff then cheap out on a junky turbo and manifold.

i'm not sure there is a good answer right now. if you can find a kit, its going to be for like 7000hp. if you piece stuff together it takes a long time, and results vary. i bought a used HKS manifold, T4, fake HKS wastegate, and then still need to make a down pipe and all the water and oil lines.

if you do some searching Blue TII had a 7176 (?) or something on an HKS FD manifold that was about the power you want, but with insta spool.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of, nothing is easy to find anymore of course. Our cars keep getting older and parts harder and harder to find. But I'll search what you recommended and have a look. Thanks a bunch!

As j9fd3s says, in 2014 I used a 57/76mm compressor EFR 7670 on my FC after 13yrs of racing with a very modified (60mm external WG) BNR Stage 4 (same 57/76mm compressor as 7670 T04B but bigger P trim exhaust wheel).

Night and day difference- EFR 7670 is amazing turbo of 400rwhp is enough power.

I did use a FD HKS tubular manifold modded for dual WGs- but Turblown has this AMAZING cast dual WG shorty manifold for the FC.

I wish the cast ext WG FC manifold would fit on FD, but rear WG at least would be an issue.

I endorse turblown EFR 7670 kit with dual ext WG if you can handle the noise of WG dumps. If too loud, then IWG kit- dont try headache or recirc. dual ext WGs.

did you ever dyno it at lower boost? i wonder what boost it took to do 350rwhp?

That's great advice Blue. I wasn't going to go with EWG since an IWG is a smaller package but plans can easily change. Noise isn't an issue, it's a loud ass car with the current set up as it is. May I ask where you got yours tuned?

I have a Turblown EFR8374 EWG kit and loved the upgrade from twins. 351whp at a conservative 12.8psi with turbo response near OEM but as BlueT11 said the External Wastegates are not for everyone. Very happy with the setup which is primarily for street with some light track duty.

EDIT - Just realized I posted this in the FC section so apologies that the above are for an FD.

I had gone ham on WG size/placement to prevent the boost creep problems that plagued me on the old 60-1, so yeah- we started tuning on WG spring pressure and verified it held.

I will see if I have any #s from the low boost pulls. It would be in DynoDynamics HP though and not Dynojet HP.
