Rear hatch glass question
Hi,
Does anyone know if the rear hatch glass on an FC is laminated glass? In other words, if cracked, does it stay together as one sheet (like a windshield) or does it shatter in a bunch of pieces (like side window glass)? The reason I ask is I'm preparing a car for land speed racing in Bonneville, and there is a rule that the glass needs to be laminated, or protected from shattering. Thanks, Jamie |
I have the hatch glass from a '91 turbo that is out of the frame. It doesn't appear laminated when looking at the edge and inside the hole for the wiper. The wiper hole in particular is very smooth with a frosted finish, doesn't seem to have any coating or anything on it. I'm betting it's just safety glass.

The glass is definitely tempered without lamination. I know this because I've personally shattered one.

It amazes me how thin it is. I weighed it for a forum member one time and IIRC, it weighed like 27 lbs.

Thank for the replies. Looks like tempered without lamination is the answer. I found a DOT code AS-2 on the glass which also supports that.
