Question about S4 middle plate
Hi everybody!
Long story short, i've installed 3 bad engines in my car before deciding to rebuild one. One of them have everything in great shape, but the middle plate is cracked. The two other have middle plate and front plate broken, and one of those two saw major overheating before i swapped the engine. I traded a gasket kit to one of my local RX7 club for internals of one of thoses engines, was a good deal. Then i traded a kit of apex seal 2 pieces for some body parts of an old FB of mine. The only thing i'm missing to do my rebuild is an S4 NA middle plate. I have a friend who have a mint condition S4 TII middle plate, i was wondering if i could use it, is everything going to bolt correctly? Is everything going to line up ok? I know that the oil filler neck is different and that there is no EGR port, but since i was blocking it anyway, that doesn't really matters... So the question is, can i use a S4 TII middle iron on a S4 NA rebuild? |
i think the T2 iron will work. it will block off the EGR, but at this point the EGR is probably bad anyways.
the air injection on an NA S4 is in the end irons, so it should still work. the T2 had the air injection in the center, but since the holes in the rotor housings are directional, it should be blocked off, you may want to assemble the housings, and blow through the rectangular port under the center intake ports to be sure. |
Thanks, i'll try that before mounting and let you guys know

Well finally i will never know, the middle plate got a crack in the rotor surface...

Can you share some photos of the cracked iron? Have you inquired about fixing the crack? Not sure if at all possible. I will be inspecting mine very soon as we are pulling the engine this weekend. It was blowing compression into the cooling system.
