Jerking, bucking when accelerating
My 17 yr old son is new to the rotary engine cars . Just bought a 1990 rx7 13b. The car starts great but once you get going down the road, at acceleration the car starts bucking ( sorry, lack of better wording). Thinking it may be a bad TPS or plugs but I need advise. I work on all our vehicles myself but never have had a rotary motor and don't have a clue how to diagnose problems. ANY advise would be greatly appreciated.. Thank You in advance.

TPS is a common failure component that will cause severe bucking and backfiring. Try setting adjustment on it using the factory service manual method listed on foxed.ca. Second thing I would check is ignition timing. |
Was there a point in the recent past when it didn't hesitate or buck? It would be nice to have a bit more info. |

Check the MAF sensor as well (function in addition to just making sure that it’s securely connected). I recall accidentally leaving mine off while doing some other work, and then taking it for a test drive. Was scared that I’d broken something, but turned out that we just hadn’t plugged the MAF back in after a long night of tinkering... |
Technically these cars have airflow meters 'AFM'.
And yes alkymist, it sure is. |
