Cost Efficient Suspension?
Hello fellow triangle fans. Im coming home soon from Navy "A" School and I get 21 days of Leave. I have new tires but my shocks are blown so handling is not the best. What i was wondering would buying KYB AGX shocks be the most cost and performance affective? And would I need to replace any other parts while i'm taking my suspension parts out?

KYB AGX adjustable shocks are some of the best suspension pieces you can find to replace the factory worn suspension. If needed you have multiple levels of adjustment and easy access to adjust them. Plus they are common to find.
I'd look at the strut mounts and make sure they aren't cracking or worn. I chose to do springs just because I figured I had everything out at the same time, they're not needed, but if you need, Racing Beat (Racing Beat - Mazda Performance Specialists) makes a great set that doesn't goof up suspension geometry and allows good clearance between the wheel and the tire. Tokico (sp?) blue's are also very nice, they aren't adjustable but do very well. They aren't made anymore, but if you find a set, you may like them also. |

I run AGX in my FC. Always have. Only exception is currently I run AGX in the front and gas-a-just in the rear. Mounts are just oe style replacements, and my springs are tanabe gf210.. pretty good ride and the handling is very crisp. I've had the racing beat springs before and I wasn't terribly thrilled... they're too soft and the rear would slouch.

Just wanted too throw this out there. Rockauto has the front KYB AGX's for less than Tire Rack. $95. I think. Don't have the rears though.

My GTU is still running stock springs on a newer set of KYB gas adjust's and I've been considering the Racingbeat spring set. But after reading some recommendations here I am having second thoughts. On my previous GXL i had tokico blue's and Eibach springs. The ride was firm but not terrible however I would prefer a slightly lower ride height. 1" or 1.5" drop is preferred.

https://www.mazdatrix.com/h6_86-92.htm It's not meant to be stiff, just somewhere between being sporty (better than stock) and a nice driver (I'll take mine mostly anywhere). Depends on how aggressive one goes. Tanabe springs list a higher spring rate and a little lower drop. I know plenty of people that have loved Tanabe as well. I honestly don't think you can wrong with either as they are both high quality pieces. |

I would like to correct people who keep saying that one spring is bouncy when another isn't. ALL springs are bouncy. The damper (strut or shock) will cause the springs oscilations to stop. It's the spring and shock combination that'll determine whether the car bounces a lot. A powerful spring on a weak damper will cause the car to bounce many times before stopping, whereas a properly powerful damper will cause the car to bounce only once before settling. Is the spring less bouncy? No, the shock is better suited to the spring.

Where can i find these parts for sale? I checked the Parts for Sale section and found nothing. Sorry i'm still learning the ropes on this forum for finding stuff.
Something I forgot to mention is that once my leave days are up i'm going to Japan for my orders. So ill probably sell the car after the 21 days of leave :c I dont wanna but my dad doesn't treat the car like I do and plus I wanna save up for an FD. |

Ahh yes just found it! Only problem is in the post he says its for pick up only and I live in North Carolina :c Id buy it if he was closer or was willing to ship it.

I ran Feal 441’s on my 2002 WRX for a year or three. Not the same car, obviously, but I wouldn’t have hesitated to put them on an FC. High speed damping was a little harsh for bumpy Maine road use, but low speed damping and overall performance seemed good on smoother pavement. Also hard to beat 1650$ for struts/shocks , springs, front camber/caster plates, mounts, and the other odds and ends that might need to be replaced when doing suspension work. The numbers I had at the time, given a broken mount or two, left it a little cheaper to go with the Feals... but then again, I haven’t used AGXs, koni yellow cartridges, etc, so I can’t say for sure that the feals perform better than other options for combined street/sport use... height adjustable, combined damping adjustable, and the stroke shouldn’t (afaik) be much shorter than stock, so you won’t have to slam it by default or anything... |
