1990 GTU Driveshaft Recommendations
 

I am going to need to replace my driveshaft due to failing u-joints (probably caused, in part, by the transmission mounts I need to replace). I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the shafts from www.wholesaleimportparts.com?

These are a bit less expensive than the mazdatrix, and they still boast replaceable u-joints, but I don't want to install garbage parts trying to save a few dollars. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, do some googling for a driveshaft shop or call some speed shops near you. Usually when you get them made they are pretty good quality, and are replaceable u-joints

If you can’t find a driveshaft shop near you, then i’d order one online

Several years ago, I replaced the driveshaft on my FC. It was a stock N/A coupe. If my memory serves correct, I went with an AL driveshaft from MazdaTrix. I wanted a slightly better (lighter) driveshaft. It was the best bang for my buck and perhaps slightly overkill considered my FC was bone stock. If you are looking for an easy replacement with the best value then I highly recommend it (AL driveshaft). More than likely, you would not have to worry about U-joint replacement...unless you are pushing mad HP.

Or unless the 27 y/o bushings in the transmission mount fail so completely that your transmission drops 2" yanking those u-joints at an odd angle every revolution. I replaced the original driveshaft just last year, but I bought an OEM off of a buddy of mine very clean, but still used, so here I am again. I'm just hoping that there aren't any parts in the tail end of the transmission that need to be replaced in order to remove the large amount of play (1/6th of a turn) I have between the trans and driveshaft. Either way, trans mounts first, see how much of my issue get solved by that alone. Replace the rest as needed.
