Looking for aftermarket spring advice
 

I'm shopping for some aftermarket springs for my 88NA. Will be doing the 5 lug conversion soon and springs, new bushings, rear camber eliminator and possibly new sway bars are next.
I have tokico HP's all around.
I'm just looking for some feedback on what others have for springs and how they like/dislike them, etc.

I just installed Tokico HPs and Eibach Springs on my '87 TII. These springs were rec. by Mazdacomp. . I like the fact that the car still rides as good as it did on the stock springs (the Eibachs are progressive) and that it handles great when you really push it. I think I would have preferred linear springs though....I wanted the car to have that predictable....level....racecar feel and i'm a little disappointed. I like the set up....much better than my stock setup (although it was worn out) but if I did it again i'd get stiffer linear springs.

I agree, I want liner springs as well, ride quality is not real important to me, I live in florida where the roads are in great shape compared to where i used to live in michigan. Thanks for the input.

Yea, the Eibachs have a nicer ride quality, but I would go stiffer. I am going to be getting the Intrax springs...mainly because they have the largest drop...and the lower I go, the better I'll feel!

im running eibachs. i like them. its kinda weird the way they handle tho. you turn the wheel a little bit in the turn and the car does not bite, but soon as you go over like 1/8th to 1/4th turn of the wheel it seems to slip into the different rate on the spring and body roll is instantly stopped and it grabs and goes.

in a vert i got them just to ensure a better ride quality, and if i intend to sell the car hard springs arent a selling point unless im sellin to a ricer who wants a jaw shattering ride.

Anybody out there with anything other than eibach's?

I've got the HKS springs. Drop the car about 1.25". I'm pretty sure they're linear rate and they are stiff. If you don't mind a somewhat rough ride, I'd recommend them.

When I had a '90 N/A I had Racing Beat springs and then I switched to Intrax. The Intrax do lower the car about 1.75" but they ride real rough. (you'll get about a 1" drop w/ Racing Beat) You'll jar your teeth out of your head if you go over RR tracks for example.
I now have Ground Control coilovers on my TII and am quite satisfied (look at the spring rates in my sig - this current set-up is much better than when I was running Intrax)
If you're not going with coilovers I would go with the Racing Beat springs - they ARE linear-rate. Personally, I think Racing Beat has some key products that are hard to beat for FC's...sway bars/rear toe-eliminator bushings and springs.

I suggest the Ground Control Coil-Over setup. That leaves you open to change the springs to suit your car, hp level, driving style and, road conditions. The kit is $399 complete.

That is a nice system. THe price seems to be very reasonable also! What a combination.

I've used every combination here on each of the four FC's I've had, recently sold three of them, not the GT-X of course. I really liked the handling and predictability of the RAcing Beat springs. For the price of a set, they can't be beat. Unless going with a coilover setup, I always reccomend the RB stuff for the FC.

During the FC's developmental period, Racing BEat only did that. All their resources went into one vehicle, rather than into several applications. As far as ride quality, it can vary depending on the valving of your struts, i.e HP's = non adj., adj = illuminas, AGX, GAB. By getting adjustables, you'll be able to tune it to your liking. The natural characteristics of the linear spring will remain, but you'll be able to soften your ass's impact with adj. struts.

If you want the GC's or RB, even the progressives like Intrax and Eibach, Suspension Techniques, let me know. I'll get you a better deal than the $399.00, that's retail on the GC's, not much markup, but still will save, as I run specials on this stuff for forum members.

If you like the "slammed" look, you should try the Tanabe Super Down Precedeo springs. I have these on my 90 vert with Tokico shocks in the rear and KYB shocks in the front. It surpasses the intrax springs with a 2 inch drop:eek: ! The ride quality is okay, not that great. These are the exact same springs Tanabe uses in their Sustec Pro coilover damper systems. When I first had these springs on my stock BBS rims, the wheels had rim tuck in the front. Very, very, very low...... I bought mine for only $125 through Joji Tatemoto at www.wheelchoice.com

Do they still make these springs for the FC? I called wheelchoice and they dont carry springs anymore. Some other place said that they only made "Tanabe Super H" springs for the FC.

I've got the GC coilover kit with 375lbs front springs and 325lbs. rears....it is amazing. My car has almost 0 body roll now, and really bites into corners, and is ready for the next corner the instant I finish the 1st...there is no delay waiting for the body to roll back.

Yes! I had those rate springs for a while. I even did my first autocross. The car handled great.

I've dropped to 300 and 200 now though, for more comfort.

Has anybody tried/have the arospeed adjustable coilovers? www.arospeed.com They seem alright, cheap price aswell. Any comments on them?

I just recently installed my Suspension Techniques Springs... and man I love them!! They are soo stiff.. it's awesome! Ride quality isn't important at all for me.. but I really can't tell a difference... I am locked on the road =) for 200 bucks , I think it's a very important mod to do to Sevens.. They were designed for handling too, not just power!~ lots of seven owners forget that...
