Engine pulling
 

I am pulling my engine on my 88 N/A. I cant figure out where the engine harness unplugs to free up the engine. The factory manual shows two plugs at the end of it, but I cant find them. Does anyone know where they are near? and also what is the best way to support the engine when I get it out. I have heard you need to buy the mount from mazda tricks, but it is expensive, what other ways is there? Any help would be appreciated.

PUlling the harnes with the engine is the easiest way. IT goes through teh firewall and plugs into the ecu in the passenger foot well. Get inside, pull back the carpet and kick panel, and youll find the plate, which underneath is the ecu. 2 of the 3 plugs go to the engine, the other stays in the car. There are also 3 other plugs in the passenger kick panel area...2 large yellow ones, and a 4 wire white one for the atmospheric pressure sensor, all within 9" of the ecu. Once those are unplugged and freed, you can pull it straight out towards the engine, just pry the boot out of the firewall first. Feed one plug at a time through, adn it comes right out. Lay it on top of the engine and pull her on out.

What wil you be doing to the engine. Myself, I just sit it on the garage floor and prop a couple of 2x4s under the oil pan to balance it, while I remove intake or whatever. IF you fully drain everything well enough, you can lay it back on the flywheel and it will not move, but it will rotate.

FOr storage stability or transoportation, you cant beat an old tire. IF you want to do things right, get an engine stand and make a adaptor, but I dont see a real NEED for it.

Please be REALLY CAREFULL with thos wires- the cable bunches bet really brittle with age and heat. Don't bend the wires any more than absolutely required.
Electrical problems wrapped and taped in a bundle of wires are pretty damn annoying.
