Stainless steel flanges are not usually recommended due to them being more susceptible to warping during welding, and high heat. Mild steel does not have this problem. I just use very thick stainless flange, because I hate rust on my car :)

Warping huh? If that's the case why not just machine individual flanges for each exhaust port? That's what I'm going to do with my project. If anything it should seal better since the two bolts only have to hold that individual flange. Technically I see no reason for your average rotary exhaust flange to be connected end to end. I've seen this done before. 13b could be 2 piece and 20b could be 3 piece. Wouldn't this cure the warping problem for stainless? Also you could just coat the mild steel exhaust if your worried about rust.
