need a turbo

i need a turbo for my 20b and i herd between 40r and 42r are really good witch should i go with?:dunno:

Chaotic_FC 07-11-09 01:53 AM

i think on a 20b theres no point on going with anything less than an 80mm turbo.. mabey a borg warner s480, or a 80mm GT42R.

What are you power goals with this engine? and at what PSI?

rotorykent 07-11-09 11:28 AM

i want 500whp or more nothing less

Japan2LA 07-11-09 02:33 PM

72mm turbo @ 10psi will make 530RWHP

rotorykent 07-11-09 02:44 PM

ok does anyone know how much boost i can run before something happens or apex seal go on me ??

that question depends on countless other factors.. but i wouldn't imagine before 20psi; which is plenty of power.

I'd go with a 40R. I have a 4202R and I'm not even really into its efficiency at 575whp. A 40R should spool faster and still make plenty of power

imtiaz 07-12-09 12:16 AM

what is the difference between the 4202r and the 42r

dude you just asked that question in another thread.

If you are looking for a Big fat turbo that will still spool plenty fast, then go with a borg warner s475. They're 600 bucks.. you cant beat that really.

I wouldnt go with a divided housing turbo, so the 40R and 42R are definitely not my picks. Dumping exhaust from 3 rotors into 2 halves of a turbo is a mess and you could lose power or have longer spool time.

I would go with something like a Precision 71-76mm, or like Chaotic said, S475. The Precision turbines are a little smaller than the BW units but they will spool quick and make nice power. The BW stuff is much less expensive though.

The GT4202 IS a GT42R. There are 2 variants of the 42R, they are the 4294 and 4202. The difference is the compressor wheel.

oh ok cool... the 4202 has a 102mm compressor what does 4294 have ? which would be better ?

the holset hx53 specs: the comp wheel is 67mm, the exhaust wheel is 70mm, and the housing is a 16cm^2.

rotorykent 07-13-09 10:04 PM

how much power and what pounds of boost?

Measuring the exducer it has a 94mm compressor. I would recommend the 4202, its compressor is better for higher power because its more efficient at 15-25psi and higher airflow levels.
