Wow.. was looking at the pics.. then I noticed OHIO plates!! Where in this crappy state are you located? I'd love to come down and take a look at that beast if you don't mind.
|
I want to know how you used the stock subframe??
|
I am in gahanna ohio, just by columbus. You can check it out anytime, just let me know when. Stock subframe was pretty easy, I welded motor mounts that placed them to the factory 13B placement, rewelded the powersteering pressure feed line to the side. relocated the alternator, and made a custom waterpump outlet. That was about it.
|
That's some nice work! I love seeing projects that are a little off the path.
You care about cupholders with an interior like that? lol |

WOW!! Looks great! Would you mind sharing your stock subframe trick?? Detail pics would be great! Also the alternator relocation. |
Absoutely awsome work! Congrat on your hard work. I think 20B NA is the way to go.

I have some pics of the conversion, I'm not a guy to hold back secrets, especially all the thanks you get when you help out a fellow rotary guy.
Speaking of Thanks, NOPR helped alot of getting the footage, and editing it, and then posting it on here for all to see, THANKS MAN!!!! |

Hope to see it in person one of these days... If I was still in Cincy, I would drive right over to see it. |
I wanna see this one in person. :D
Soon *all* RX-7s in Ohio will be peripheral port :D |
Two nights ago, SHM21284 was in town, and I let him rip on my car for a while (what are friends for?) On the freeway 270, we decieded to do a small top speed run, went very smoothly, and even with the windows down, we got to 176.8 MPH !!! New record for me and him. Still had alot left in it, so I would like to try again somtime and get 185+ in the future.
|
How was the cars stability?

well basically, im still alive!!!
the car drives at 176.6 mph like it does at 100... super smooth, stuck to the ground, and HOLY SHIT IS IT FAST!!!! at that point, your passing others at over 100 mph.... hahaha and the wind is louder than the car. i made a lane change, very very stable, and went over some expansion joints on a bridge (bump) and there were no problems there. keep in mind, the car is probably 2 inches lower, which creates plenty of downforce (less air moving under the car creates a vacuum, sucking the car down--- learned that on discovery channel). Oh yeah, the car drifts fucking sweet, and Logan, your fab work kicks ass!!!! |

There's an article on one of the magazines (car & driver maybe?) that just recently did a one mile acceleration test and one of the race cars supposedly is designed with so much down force that it could actually be driven upside down at speeds over 150 mph. I was like  |

GtoRx7, your car is awesome. I was thinking about doing a similar setup in an FC. I think I understand how you made the intake manifold, but I'm wondering where you found the setup. Because I've been looking for 13b ITB setups like that, and the only thing similar that I can find is the Racing Beat upper manifold which bolts to a stock LIM. I'd rather have it all in one manifold, curving over the top of the engine like your setup. I was just wondering what kind of manifolds you used to make your setup. Also, I can't wait to see the dyno results, and maybe another video once the p-ports are working. :) I love the part where your car flies by on the highway, what a great sound! |
Thanks for all the compliments, dyno is scheduled on thursday. So I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Man, I would absolutley love to do this project to the FC, but now I have a good question: I get how you made the intake manifold work for the side ports, but I'm having trouble visualizing the intake ports for the semi-PPorts. Now I don't want you to take the whole intake off the car just to get a few pics, but if you have any or even the CAD drawing, that'd probably help! Oh, did I mention that this is by far the coolest 20B project I've seen, very original!
|
I am pulling the intake tonight to fix a few vaccum leaks in the injector area, so I will take a few shots.
|
Damn! very impressive :)

I've been thinking of maybe calling out a few "superior" Ls-1 powered rx-7's to see how mine fairs, all motor only cars of course. What do you guys think??
2.0 vs 5.7 hmmm I know the 20b I'm running is lighter than a Ls-1, I wieghed it with intake, the long headers, and flywheel, and it came to 310lbs. Motor only was 250lbs. Not bad for so much cast iron, wish it was all aluminum!! |
Damn, 310 lbs. That's awesome, does that include accessories too?
|
speeking of accessories, I like the idler pully and mount that replaced the top mounted alternator, as well as the mounting for it where the A/C used to be. Also, did you keep the P/S just because of the noseheavyness? Another also, what did you do for front suspension mods to help it all work?
