Idle Oil Pressure

Hey Guys,

At idle 900rpm or so, what is normal oil pressure? I am running about 22-25 psi. I have a dual oil filter relocation kit and twin b&m oil coolers as well.

Where are you measuring you oil pressure from? is it mechanical or electrical your gauge?
are your coolers run in series or parallel ? any recent work been done to it including servicing?

I am using a SPA oil pressure gauge which I believe is electrical and I am running the oil coolers in series. I want to make sure that I am safe

The dual filter relocation kit added another quart to the system and the dual oil coolers added another two quarts. I am also topped off on fluids.

The oil pressure is being measured from the stock location

Going off the information you have provided, your engine oil pressure is on the low side of things( that is assuming that is your engine oil pressure at idle while hot ) I don't have my 20b workshop manual handy at the moment but fd3s oil pressure at idle while its hot is between 25-40psi.

confirm your engine oil pressure with another gauge.

your engine idle is a 100 or so rpm higher too.

I think i am going to install an oil thermostat to help solve this problem. I am not running into issues until the coolant temp reaches 160f. Maybe the restriction will help boost up the idle low oil pressure?

What's your oil pressure at idle when cold? and what grade oil are you running?

I doubt that an oil thermostat is going to help your cause.

Idle oil pressure when the engine is cold is around 45-50 psi. I am running Brad Penn 20w50. I recently had the car retuned because is was running extremely rich and I am wondering if the rich condition has broken down the oil with fuel? You dont think that the restriction the oil thermostat will bump up the pressure a little bit?

If you have been over fuelling it is possible to have fuel in your oil causing it to thin out and loose its properties,
given that your oil pressure problem is only when hot and an oil thermostat opens when hot your thermostat isn't going to make SFA difference. how ever I do recommend having an oil thermostat in your system anyway.

Change the oil since it's diluted.

20b factory workshop manual states 10w-30, just as a little tid-bit
