I'm currently working with a Japanese scientist who's translating the Eunos Cosmos Service manual into English. Wanted to know if anyone is interested in sharing the cost to translate this manual?? If you are interested, please PM me or post here..

As of now I have 4-5 people interested in getting this.. Cost will drop as more people sign up but as of now, it will be 500-600 each, printed and shipped to your door.

DGRR, you are a saint and scholar among us. The whole rotary community worldwide shall be in your debt. This might not be entirely related, but perhaps after the JC Cosmo shop manual is finished, you might consider having the parts catalog translated too. Possibly with the J-spec S4 and S5 shop manuals and catalogs too?

I'd chip in $20. Make a web page to accept Paypal donations and post it for a free download when completed. Put up an esitmated amount that's needed to finish it. I can make the site for you if need be.

I may be interested, but it's hard to commit to something no knowing how much it's going to take to get the whole thing translated...

That is the reason why $100 deposit to start off with and pending number of committed will determine the price at the end.

Cost of translation will be roughly 2000-2500 USD, Printing 600+ pages, binding cost, shipping cost... each manual itself will cost about 100 to print and ship (pending location). So, $100 deposit is set to cover the print/bind/shipping and number of people will be splitting the translation cost of the manual. Hope this clear up a bit why I can not give you a set price at the moment. But before committing one must realize at this point, it could be about $500+ per manual (as I only have 4-5 serious interest). But since the translation will take 6 months or longer (I predict over a year), we might get others to join in later.. hence the price might come down.

I'm thinking if you go that route, fund it. Then charge people your full amount. But some asshole will copy it and PDF it eventually...

If you want donations, it might be best to PDF it, request it to NOT be posted anywhere else, and ask for donations explaining how much it cost to get it translated.

I've already thought about potential copying and distribution of the translated copy. Hence each person who signs up for it would need to sign a document stating they will not copy and distribute. Also, to find the person who will leak it (if they are that immature to do so, I'll have a hidden code which will link to specific person who makes a copy.

I'd be interested if you could break it down into chassis and engine choices.
I'm only interested in the engine section and the 20b in particular. Unless you hand over the keys to your Cosmo and let me drive it until it breaks I'd never have a reason to use the rest of the manual. Btw, I'd promise to fix to what I break :D

There is no engine section (regarding build).

Ive even talked to mazda USA, whom checked with Mazda Japan and the manual does not have any info about building the 20B... Which is I'm sure most of you are interested in.

Might be a tad off-topic, but do you have the Cosmo's parts catalog? Even still in japanese, those with 20b's would be in your debt. I need to dig up some gasket part numbers to assemble my 20b and would greatly appreciate it. Also, our kindly moderator Aaron Cake has graciously offered to host the parts catalog too. Phil, besides you, I think there are only 2 other Cosmo owners on this forum. The rest of us just have the engine, and since that is not covered in the manual, your project is unfortunately relegated to trivia for most of us. If I owned a Cosmo I would certainly help fund the project, but as it is right now it would make about as much sense for me to help fund this as it would for you to help fund the remodeling of my kitchen. I think RoTaRyBoYz had a good suggestion to post in Anzac forums where there are probably more than a couple of English-speaking Cosmo owners. Another idea may be to sell something more useful (key chains, t-shirts, custom 20B parts, etc.) and then put the proceeds toward the manual.

Yeah, I have gave up on this idea as not much interest.. And I was told by the translator that if I need something translated, it could be translated just for me. So, for now, I've decided to can this idea and just concentrate on my event and such.. Maybe later on in the future I'll get this done.

Im interested in the 20B and 13B ecu pin out pages. and they dont need to be translated.

As some may know, DGRR attempted to translate the shop manual for the Eunos Cosmo here. He gave up on it due to lack of interest and financing, due to the common belief that the Engine section didn't include anything useful. I found that very difficult to believe, so I found the manual for myself. The Engine section had quite a bit of useful information in it, such as how the 20B's counterweight are clocked 27 degrees off when compared to a 13B. It also has dyno charts for the 13B-RE and 20B-REW too.

Given how the manual currently in the 20B Section only contains Volume 2 (beginning with Section K: Automatic Transmission), I can understand how there would be a lack of interest, especially with the common misconception that the Engine Section lacks useful information.

I have both volumes, as well as the Wiring Diagrams. As I'm one of the few 20B owners, I've found the manual to be quite useful on subjects like the lubrication system (Section D). I did some spot translation here and there, such as with the Lubrication section and found that the oil pressure specs are nearly identical to the FC. Between the FC & JC manuals, I determined the proper amount of oil for a 20B FC when using the FC's oil cooler.

Something else I found incredibly useful is the 20B-REW's Vacuum Diagram. So I put in the time to extract, clean it up, translate and then colorize it. And then I took it a step further by creating a Simplified Sequential diagram, using my own car as the guinea pig. Just by dabbling around and doing spot translations here & there, I read Japanese nearly as well as English now. Even the internal diagram for the OMP makes perfect sense.

I know this is a 'halo' endeavour, but the lessons to be learned from this document are beyond measure. For example, the dual thermostat system on both 13B & 20B engines work based on temperature, A/C operation and ECU override.

With the lessons learned from my own 20B Conversion, having me translating the Eunos Cosmo Shop Manual is like throwing a fish into water. To accomplish this, I am asking for the support of everyone. DGRR quoted a pricetag of $2500 for his efforts and it still needed some polishing when I compared the original vs the sample translated page. What I am offering is a humanly readable translation that is clear, concise and exactly what Mazda would have done had the Cosmo been offered through the intended Amati brand. I do not have a timeframe to completion as it is nearly 600 pages, but if the community can keep the lights, gas and internet on for me, I'll be putting in 12 hour days 7 days a week to make this happen.

As for the finished product, I intend for it to be several PDFs, akin to how the FC/FD manuals are available from Sgt Fox. It will be translated one section at a time, and re-verified against currently available and known documentation to ensure accuracy.

If it helps at all I'm a good way through translating the tech data (As that's the only volume I have) and the only info that was of any use to me.
