20B FD3 No go!? HELP!!
 
Okay guy's I need help here.
I went to start my car today for the first time and no go? Key's over like a hero but no sign of it starting. Looks a little like there is no fuel getting into the engine though. Plugs where bone dry when I took them out after cranking for a while?
There is a good healthy spark and power to the coils.
I have power going to the injectors cannot think of a way to see if they are injecting though?
I am running a microtech LTX-12 ECU. Seem to have readings to the sensors from the laptop software. TPS is a bit odd but set for 0% at closed throttle. Hits 99% about half throttle. Tried moving it to get a better range with 0% still at closed throttle but that made no difference?

Any thoughts. What can I check next.
I think I have fuel lines connected the correct way around. Return is coming out of the top rail? Feed into the bottom one? not even sure if that would prevent it starting?

the cosmo TPS, is in concept like the S5 FC, where it has a full range and a narrowl range sensor.

if its 100% throttle at less than full throttle (o_0), then you have it wired into the narrow range sensor instead of the full range sensor.

the cosmo TPS has the two sensors in one unit, so power and ground are the same for both, so you just need to use the other signal wire.

Yes fuel pump is going like a hero too.
Tps was wired like this from another car and it ran okay so I presume it will still fire up as it is?

fuel pressure? (you should be measuring this anyway).
Does the Microtech show an RPM or 'crank' when cranking?
Do you have spark and is it timed correctly?
Did you check for +12V to the injectors?


No offense, but have you ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? I like helping, but you have posted more basic questions in this forum than anyone else in the history of the 20B conversion. Unless you are trying to create the first crowd-sourced car or something, maybe you should get a local friend who knows a bit more about cars to come and help you out?

Crank angle sensor correctly hook up?
Is it a fresh rebuild? If so some oil down the runners will help initial compression ( smokes alot )

I too am embarking on this 20b journey. The basic questions may help others. This is a rare engine swap and for anyone with any degree of expertise to reach the level of attempting to start up their own 20b is always something great to see. :icon_tup:

I thought I had covered most basic checks before posting what to look for next in case I was missing some common wiring mistake or forgetting something. As it is, it appears all my injectors are stuck so they are out getting cleaned and I hope that sorts it.
This is quite an involved conversion and expensive as anyone in this boat already knows. I don't want to do something daft in haste to get it running and cause some expensive damage!
Plan is to get it running as is in pretty much stock format. Then start swapping out fuel system for my uprated stuff. Then when all that is in and running with a basic map rebuild the motor. That way I am not stop starting a new motor chasing potential fuel system issues and it is just ready to run in.

That link is all my own work. I never claimed to know everything and I am just extra cautious with this build. If you don't ask questions you don't learn things and hopefully they will help someone else out.
The help and support is greatly appreciated.

Noid Light and IAC Tester Set 11 Pc

Did you test with a noid light like I linked above before sending them off?

Not a noid light set but I did check for power to injectors with a circuit tester. I was going to check circuit completion through the Ecu but couldn't on my own with the equipment is I had so I directly checked the injectors with a battery, which was easier, and sure enough they did not click! I will try and verify the Ecu side of the circuit too if I can before I have a go again. Think there is a test function for that in the Ecu software but I am yet to find it.

My wife bought me one of those arduino based pocket oscilloscopes for my birthday a couple years ago, which is really handy for that sort of thing. Might be worth your time to look them up, I think they are only about $50.

ALL of your injectors are stuck? That's nutty. I guess its possible if you are using factory parts, sitting for 20 years.

All the Primaries are! That is what I thought. Apparently quite common if they have been sitting a while so I am told? We will see.

Having the injectors cleaned and flow tested is a must before any type of rotary rebuild IMO. Running lean in a single chamber is something you dont want on any boosted rotary. Call this a blessing in disguise. ;)

I agree it probably is a blessing in disguise! I won't be running them for long but certainly better safe than sorry. Been a delay getting them back which is a pain as I wanted to do them this weekend. Fingers crossed for next weekend then!
