Zero compression; Did the ATF; Now locked up!
So I loose all compression in the rear rotor of my 82 spare. I mean none, nada, nicht, nuttin. I can’t even hear air moving when I crank it over w/ the plugs out.
I figure what the heck I’ll do the ATF thing. Let it soak for a good long week. Then put it back together and try to crank her up. First it turns but does not want to start. Advance the timing and put a charger on the battery. Then the starter starts acting kind of funny. Then the damn thing just locks right up. Thought it might be the starter so I pulled it, but that’s not it. Should I even try to unlock the thing or just put it in the “Will rebuild later” pile in the shop? I put it in gear and rocked the car back and forth but to no avail. What is the general consensus or your own opinions? Thanks:D |
Put it in the pile before you trash a housing.

I wonder why it locked up. How did you administer the ATF is it carburated or EGI?

Sounds like carbon lock. Pull the trailing plugs and try rotating the engine backwards by hand. The ATF could have loosened up a chunk of carbon.
But, it still sounds like your in rebuild country. If you have no compression at all it sounds like a side seal. hanman |
