because if you don't it's a good thing you bought those SE wheels to fit that rearend. if you didn't know this... 1st gen SE's are different then any other 1st gen. BTW call me crazy, but i like the wheels you've already got on. so you,,upgraded ?? or downgraded ?? IMO By looking at the pic of your wheel it looks like a drum brake rear. a GSL rearend is what you want. right ? |

You'd better go back and get the front suspension, and master cylinder too if you still have the 12A stuff. (I assume you have a 79-80 from the metal bumper statement).

I would have got the front suspension but I ran out of money... :( total all the stuff costed about $300, not a bad deal. Yes I have a 79... what exactly is the differences between the GSL-SE front suspension and the GSL suspension?

GSL-SE bolt pattern: 4x114.3
other rx7 pattern: 4x110 If you got those rims off hte same car you got the rearend off of, they will be fine. But then you will need to change the front suspension so it will fit up there as well. You won't be displieased. The GSL-SE bolt pattern is a common modern day pattern, so you can get fancy rims for it. |
Go back and get those front struts with the brakes! 1/2 of a GSL-SE suspension is 1/2 of what you need.

People keep telling me this but I'm not sure exactly why this is?
What exactly is the difference with the front strut assemblies? If I can sell this rebuilt 13b I've got sitting here I'll have the cash to go back and get the rest. ;) |
As ioTus said, the wheel bolt pattern is different for the GSL-SE. If you put the rear on a 12a Rx-7 you'll need to run mis-matched wheels. Also, the brakes are different on the GSL-SE too. So again, if you use the GSL-SE rear your rear brakes will not match your front brakes and you'll probably end up with dangerous braking dynamics.

But I did get the bumper reinforcement bars... but I don't like em! I think I should be able to use clips to mount the rear... but there it is not gonna be a direct fit. The spot for the licence plate leaves a space. I guess I could just move the plate down there... but these pieces are just plastic so cutting and shaping is easy at least. |
Wait a second you are gonna run a bumper skin without the reinforcement bar? I guess that would be ok till you get hit or hit something then you will throughly enjoy the front/rear end of the other car in your face... Id not recoomend not running the reinforcement, and talking about safety the 79-80 is probally a better bumper for preventing damage to your car, ask me how I know, I had a 80 :)

Well I removed the support bar and cleaned out the skins. For saftey that bar didn't seem like it would do all that much especialy, compared to the original bumper!
but I would suppose that the newer style bumper would only offer some minor protecttion in a slow speed <<<BUMP>>> . And I understand the front suspension difference now... Well I guess I'm learning. But I really didn't have any more money when I got the rear end. :( |
You don't *have* to use the later fenders, but it looks a whole hell of a lot better. The front bumper doesn't line up with the old bumper cutouts. mar3 had a late bumper on his 80.
Hopefully the front suspension and stuff will still be on the car when you have the money to go back. $300 for all that is a great deal! |

If you have a 79 you will need the SE brake booster also..

Yes i now see the folley in my not getting the front brakes and suspension!! LOL ;)
But that shouldn't be too much of a prob when I get some more cash! And I believe the pick a parts are having a sale on valentines day of some sort... not sure how much a discount they're having though. |
Grab all the brake lines while you're there, yours have different threads.
