Xmas gift for RX7; ordered some Konig Rewinds
Being a generous person this holiday season, I ordered a gift for my favorite car today. Some Konig Rewinds (Silver). With 195/50/15 Dunlop tires. Should be a nice upgrade from the stock 13s that are a challenge to find performance street tires for.

I got a brand new proper same side intercooler.
Santa was good to me. :D |
Rewinds look great on FB's. I had the gunmetal ones on mine a few years back. Post pics when you get them :)
|
Will post some pics once tires are on car. Got KYB GR2 and Racing Beat spring also; so waiting to clean up some rust then get suspension and tires mounted.
I will post some current pics of car, got it about a month ago off BAT. Third RX-7 I have owned. Like the 1st gen cars the best. |
I think I saw that one being auctioned on BAT. Was it this one?

Yep, that the one.

I wouldn't call them junk but they are not rated to or mated to the RB spring rates. So what I
experience with them is porpoising when making wide sweeping turns at speed and some bounciness. If you don't push your car hard a lot you may not notice these things but as you do they become apparent. My next set will be adjustable and I may change my springs as well once I determine what I want. |

I say they're junk because I've blown 2 sets of front struts in a 2 year period of street driving.
|
Well I am not planning on auto crossing and heavy track use. And for the price; got entire KYB G strut and shocks with strut mount and strut boots for less than one higher rated strut. RB confirmed that these shocks work fine for spirit street driving. I will upgrade struts and shocks if needed, but will think about RB sway bars before I replace them. I believe in softer spring rate and firmer sway bars for the street.

the KYB is a lesser shock absorber than what came on the car STOCK in terms of performance. Bound strength it feels like a trap door opens under you, and rebound so weak that factory springs overpower it, and causes the car to "swim" when on anything but perfectly smooth road. the suspension is a HUGE part of how your rx7 drives. Spend a little $$ here and get the tokico blues. Trust me, been there and done that. |
RB has been "often wrong" on many subjects. Add shock/strut advice to the list.
|
I see that Bilstein offers HD inserts for FC struts now. I wonder if they can be adapted to FB.

Well for my RX7, the springs and shocks are 32 years old... think RB springs and KYB should be improvement. I had Tokico blues on a 84 RX7 I had years ago, great shocks; could not find any available... so going KYB for now.
Needed tires, lots of tread but 8 years old... so ordered Konigs with 195/50/15 which should also be a step up from tires on car presently. I do enjoy the advice and appreciate the input since getting back into RX7 scene. |
