WTF??! Premixing question!!

Okay, I have a client with an '80 Rx-7 He hasnt done anything to the car, but I was looking at it today. He claims its stock, HOWEVER it has had a rats nest removal, and it has an OMP adapter... there are a few other things... He has been driving it for almost 2 years without premixing! Shouldnt he have had a major engine failure?? Or will the gasoline lubricate the chamber enough to not need a premix? He uses 87 octane, not that I think it makes a difference... Why do we bother premixing if this guy has put 6K on the clock and runs it balls to the wall on the weekends..... Or is this just some kind of weird fluke....... J/W, any comments would be appreciated

Adapter means it pulls the oil from a seperate tank that 2stroke can be put in.

Do you mean that the OMP is blocked off?

LokiRx7.1 02-07-06 10:31 AM

Yeah, sorry, you know what I mean... I am at work right now and I am on luch brake.... I am replacing his radiator and oil cooler, and a lot of the lines going to and from them. Alot of dryrot. And the radiator leaks, thus the oil cooler became corroded. So he just went and bought everything for it.... rich fuck...

Kentetsu 02-07-06 10:33 AM

I guess that if he's rich, he can afford not to premix...... I hate guys like that! :)

On premixing.
His metering pump should be sufficient. You can premix the fuel using two stroke oil
mix however it may be overkill. You will have an engine failure it the metering pump
is inop. I also have an 80 and run both as i beat the crap out of mine

Yeah, he got the RB front mount intercooler, and the RB oil cooler lines. He got the OEM replacement radiator though. Next week I guess I am going to install an exhaust for him.... But wouldnt it over time damage the combustion chamber? or do you think the fuel may actually be substituting itself? I dont premix on my car, I thought it would be too much of a hassle, besides I didnt see any huge advantages. So I asked him what he uses to premix and if its a hassle to do, and he looks at me and goes, WTF is premixing?? I thought the apex seals without proper lubrication would eat at the rotor housings... I know this guy and thats why he brings his car to me... So I know he runs it like a maniac... I just figured by now it would've blown up on him...

LokiRx7.1 02-07-06 10:44 AM

Oh okay, I just wasnt sure. If my fears were correct I would have him buy the OMP so I could route it in for him. I just dont want his car to go BOOM....

cpa7man 02-07-06 11:30 AM

I think you would have to ask a Mazda engineeer, or someone as qualified to get the right answer. I think the question would be, just how long does the 12a last without an omp/premix? Does it cut it's life in half??

LokiRx7.1 02-07-06 11:54 AM

Yeah, I have done alot of work on OEM rotaries, and I have alot of experience with bolt on performance..... But I dont have a lot of experience with this kind of thing, I figured Mazda did it, and they probably spent years researching it, so why mess with it? but I am sure there are reasons to, I am not depating that. But as stated previously, what will happen if someone does this? does anyone have experience with something like this? Will it implode? will it explode? do we know?

Dan H 02-07-06 11:58 AM

No, it won't just explode like that or anything. It will just cause more wear, thats all. How much more wear, I'm not too sure but if he pre-mixed earlier, the engine would last a lot longer.

LokiRx7.1 02-07-06 12:14 PM

Well I am assuming the previous owner premixed, because he did a good job on the rats nest removal, and the OMP block off. Its a pristine car, only 40K. I know it wont explode I was just rambling. But like I said I dont want this guy to EFF his car all up. I will probably go ahead and tell him to order the OMP, but maybe the damage is already done. I'll do a compression check just to see. If anyone has any additional info it would be apreciated greatly.

Omp

I have direct contact w/two rotary experts. If you not have the omp
hooked up and operational you will need to use "weed wacker gas"
You will wear the apex seals out prematurely in addition to the
rotor housings. The engine is designed to burn and use oil as a lubricant
via the metering pump. It should not be disconnected. If the car was run w/o it your right the damage is already done but you can stop it from continuing.

Premix has several advantages- No longer having shitty sump oil injected back into the motor
2 stroke burns a lot better than engine oil :icon_tup:
If you are running injection premix lubricates your fuel system nicely
Safer for high rev applications
