That's cool.
I guy I work with has a '74 Arctic Cat Snow machine with a wankle motor that I may buy for $50. Runs and everything!

I am originally from Ill. and my dad owned one of the largest snowmobile dealerships in the 70s and 80s up there. He had Arctic Cat, Polaris, and Kawasaki......I dont remember Arctic Cat having a rotary snowmobile???? I know Johnson(OMC) had a single rotor snowmobile.....really heavy, really slow, and really rough running!!

I know the OS, as Germany is right around the corner... So we get to see their products easy enough. But it's not the smallest Wankel. US military had some projects going, and an engine that was way smaller was made. I'll try to find a pic somewhere.

RotorMotorDriver 11-15-02 05:17 PM

Actually, boys and girls..THIS is the worlds smalles rotary engine...

WHOOOW!!!

rotary emotions 11-15-02 05:36 PM

Yep TJ, that's the one I mean! Just couldn't find the pic, must be on one of my CD-roms, that are taking to much space and plenty of time to search :-)
As far as I knew, it was thought to be the powersource for a mini-generator. Well, I guess I read that link you posted...

That's sweet, I didn't know Graupner made a .30 cu. in. wankel (must be an O.S. copy as O.S. claims to be the first to produce a rotary for R/C models), the only Graupner I was previously aware of was a 2.25 cu. in. one that retailed around $2000. The real O.S. retails at $250, which is still the smallest production rotary I know of.

id love to have one of those! a small running wankel? hmmm tiny apex seals??? lol

82transam 11-15-02 10:47 PM

1st7heaven 11-15-02 11:24 PM

I have seen several of them in my local hobby shops.

Orange!FD 11-15-02 11:48 PM

Ok, now I get it. That auction is for a first-generation world's smallest wankel...

OS and Graupner jointly developed the design and each sell it under their respective brands.

EDIT: 2HP on gasoline... I wonder what it could do on CNG to power an electric generator and trickle-charge an electric commuter car?

I want to see one of those laser etched silicone engines... that'd be interesting...

From the article RotorMotorDriver posted: could you guys imagine having a cell phone with a gas tank, a mini-cat converter and an exhaust pipe? I can't... don't touch the hot exhaust pipe!:D

then you'd have people like us putting a header on it and such. oh i need more power so we blow into the intake for a turbo or spray some nitros dioxide in there
