A word on NYC Engine rebuilders

Alot of you know that Im researching all the different options, pros and cons of what path to take with getting a new engine into my 7.
Yesterday I finally got to Rampage Racing in queens NY (Im working down the avenue from them) and I walked around out front for like 5 mins to admire all the Rxs around there. When I finally walked into the shop I ask the guys behind the counter how much it would be to rebuild a 12a and to port the engine. After being told that they dont do bridge-porting the guy Im speaking to tells me that it will cost me $2800 to rebuild and STREET-port my engine. Not only that but it will take them AT LEAST 2 weeks to get it done. Now recalling what I was told at T&R Racing in queens NY. Rebuilding and BRIDGE-porting would cost me about $1500 and take about a week!!!!! Can anyone guess where Im taking my 7 for the operation?
In this wankel-heads' humble opinion Rampage Racing can kiss my rotor, suck my headers, and eat emissions devices till they choke!

Either that, or the expensive shop was just being honest and letting you know how much money and time it would take to port and rebuild the engine BEFORE it was all torn up.

Mr RXcetera....
Check out T&R racings website. These guys build and race their own cars!! Not only that but the owner of that white 1st gen is the guy who will be doing the work on my car. He told me to my face that WORSE CASE SCENARIO it would run me $1500 to rebuild and port my engine anh that he would make sure that I was there before he cracked open the engine so that I may see for myself its condition. Mind you, his car is a 10sec DAILY DRIVER!! T&R will also garauntee the work done on my engine whereas Rampage wont. T&R tells me I'd have my car back in about a week, Rampage tells me it'll take MINIMUM 2weeks. T&R has 2 cars that they drive daily that are 10sec beasts that they have built and Rampage has???
Check out their site (www.rx7s.com), they even have vidoes of their cars at the strip making their runs! So if YOU sir want to give some chump $2800 of your money to have a street ported 12a that is up to you. But I would much rather give my $$$ to a guy that has CREDENTIAL (2 very fast cars that he modded, races, and drives) and that will stand behind his work.

when i build motors it cost me about 1200-1500 in parts(mazda parts) i charge 2000 for a stock motor (with good housings ). or 2300 for a street ported motor. I can get parts from other places a bit cheaper and have done this on a few of my cars and friends cars but want to test them 1st. now time is a factor, I pulled my blown motor on thursday and started it on monday. i had to overnight the parts 15% extra. if the housings are bad your looking at about 300-1000 extra in housings. i think there prices arent to bad. i know a shop in chatt. tenn. that gets 3800 for 3rd gen motors
