Winter tire choice
Im going to have to drive my rx this winter :( So since I have to drive this winter I want to get the best tires possible. I am wondering what would be a good tire choice. So far I have found some cheap 175/80/13 nordic tires from crappy tire. Is that a good size?? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get the narrowest tires possible. You'll send your power over a smaller area to give you better traction by digging into the snow.

I bought 4 tires from Firestone a couple of years ago. It was one of those 4 for $$$(no-names) deals and I tell you, they have been the best on ice and snow I've ever had. Got caught in an ice storm and the car didn't slide or anything.

The Nordics are a great value.
Not the best tire, but best for the $$$. If you want the absolute best go for an Artic Alpin or Blizzac... |
Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I should have asked what size is the best size. Does everybody agree that 175's would be better than 205's. What would be the ideal tire choice for a canadian winter. So far I am looking at 175/80/13. Thanks again.

Sounds about perfect size-wise

ok heres a sort of follow up. I have found a few different types of tires.
goodyear ultragrip 175/70/13 185/70/13 85$ blizzak 175/70/13 185/70/13 100$ nordic 175/80/13 65$ I will make a few more calls today find out some more prices. I dont mind spending money to get the better tires. Is there anybody out there that had good experience with a particular set of winter tires plz let me know. So far firestone has had a vote. |
When I had to drive my old FB in the winter I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizack Snow tires.
They kicked ass that winter was pritty bad and I was the only one in my famly that did not get stuck. I put on 185 70 R13. If you do go to snow tires make sure you get them off by the middle of March. Dry pavement and Wormer conditions are Hell on snow tires. They are made from a softer compound then allseasons or summer tires and ware down real fast in wormer and dry conditions. take care A |
I've had Nordic wintertracs on my Tercel for the past 2 winters and I've never got stuck with them (175/65/13). Don't see the point in going larger especially in a car as light as an RX7.
My rex hides in a garage in winter, yours should hide too... |
Amen to that...
