Windshield Washer Pump Circuit Problem
 

Hey Guys,

Well, I did a search and came up empty handed, so here's the scoop on what's buggin' me.

I go to try the wipers out the other day, and they worked fine. So I'm like "okay, wipers.. check." I tried to spray some windshield washer fluid though, to no avail.

So the first thing I did was pull the washer resivoir up and look at the pump. I disconnected the little electrical connector that ran to the pump, and tested it with my little circuit tester. No go. I then used some small wires to connect the positive and negative on the washer pump to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. VOILA! A soaked windshield (and a soaked set of "shop towels on a roll" which I had forgotten to move out of the way.. Doh!).

So I know it's not the washer sprayer motor. I checked the fuse for it, and the fuse is fine (which I figured it would be since the wipers are on the same circuit and have the same fuse).

It just seems that no power gets to the washer motor. Am I going to have to unwrap that damn junction of wires that goes to the harness, or do you think it's a problem with the switch at the end of the arm in the steering column? Any other ideas of ways to test it? Or suggestions how to solve it?

Sorry can't help you, I have the same problem. The washer was working fine then all of a sudden nothing. I took the washer motor out tested it, and it works, fuse is fine, but still no dice. Post back if you figure it out.

I TOO have the EXACT Problem ! - No power to the motor of the washer. I can get it goibg if I take it from the battery as well, so there its not burnt out. . . I too would like to know !!

Damn, this is seeming to be a more common problem than I thought!

Looking at the circuit diagram, the only really accessible places that you can test are the fuse (which runs the wipers too, so it's good) the motor (with runs off the battery, so it's good) the fusible links (which I just replaced due to a starter problem, they're good), and the switch in the actual steering column.....

I'm not sure about the last one. I know it works for the different wiper settings, but pulling it back is another switch entirely... Still though, I am reluctant to think that's it. I'm also reluctant to pull apart my steering column because it appears to be such a PAIN IN THE ASS to do....

Still no ideas though?

I have the same problem & traced it down to the combo switch on the steering wheel. There's a little plastic tab that pushes 2 contacts together..that was broken off. You can manually push the contacts together & the washer will work (at least mine did).
I had to get a new complete combo switch to fix.

I'm having the same problem.....good thing I found this or I was going to go by a new motor. I'll have to check everything now to make sure it's ok.

Those combo switches are expensive aren't they *sigh*.... And to think, it wouldn't really bother me, except for the fact that I have to get the car safety checked... and this problem needs to be adressed for that to happen.

he's got tons of parts, very reasonable, too. That's where I got my combo switch.
