windshield trim install help

Hi there everyone, been a long time since I've posted here. Hope everyone is doing okay these days and your rotarys are hmmming along.

I pulled the windshield trim to install a new windshield on my FB. Previously the trim looked to be held on and fitted with some sort of adhesive. What curious if people had insight, recommendations or advice on how to get the windshield trim to fit back on the car. Specifically the longer lower piece that runs the length of the windshield near the cowl area. On my car, this lower trim is a pain to get to sit flat against the cowl with about a fingers width from sitting flush, which is I think why the previous time it was glued down. If anyone has ideas or has experience re fitting this trim please share your experiences.

The upper and lower trim pieces are held in place by these clips:

I think five on top and five on bottom. The side trim pieces are also held on by clips, but those are different. Needless to say, it's a bit odd that the trim was held on by adhesive.

I purchased mine from Black Dragon back when they were still around. You can get them from Atkins Rotary or eBay. Looks like they're out of stock on RockAuto.

thank you! I purchased a new set of those with the windshield, along with the clips that run along the A-pillar. Issue is portions of the trim that don't sit flush enough to make solid contact those clips. Maybe it will take some more finessing line it all up.

You need a "windshield clip kit". Ebay sells them on occasion for about $15. Mazda will gladly charge you a lot more ;)
I would see if a local glass shop will source you a kit from their suppliers. If you got a new screen, these kits always came with it (at least in the 4 I have had installed).

These may work (NOT my listing):

Basically, the clips fit on posts under the trim, on the metal frame.

Def NOT glued/adhesived in place from Mazda!!

Thanks guys, I bought a new set of clips when I had the windshield placed. What I'm dealing with is the trim fits on the edges and center, then the two clips in the side-middle have a large gap. It's very fiddly, like if I try and keep one side down the other side will pop up.

When I attempt to place the trim into the side middle clips, the trim will pop off from various other spots it was just clipped into.

It's like I'm playing wack a mole with brittle trim and clips.

Maybe if I had more hands I could get it to lay flat...

Using this pic for reference, the green circles where the trim fits into the clips, the red circles where it doesn't.

I installed my windshield trim recently and had the same problem. I think there are two reasons: 1) cheap replacement clips and 2) clips not fully clipped into the body.

What I found was that the tension from the metal trim piece was pulling the plastic clips off the body in several locations. Digging out the windshield adhesive more around the new clips allowed my to fully seat the new clips so that they would not pop off. In one instance, I had to lightly bend the top windshield trim in order for it to stay clipped at all. I did this gently and by hand. These were brand new OEM parts.

From installation to bending of windshield trim, all work has been done on your own or you have taken help from any windshield replacement expert?
